Default Dual Drive Thru's!? What? What!

Oh man... I weep for our children.

Supersized: Dunmore McDonald's debuts area's first dual drive-thru
Quote:
DUNMORE - In response to what it says are customer trends, the McDonald's restaurant on the O'Neill Highway debuted the first dual drive-thru in the Scranton area during Thursday's grand opening.

The newly rebuilt restaurant actually opened May 21, and second-generation owner Patricia Stella said customer feedback since then has been positive.

Her favorite comment came from a regular customer who said, "Thank you for bringing the future to Dunmore."

Change is also coming to the South Scranton McDonald's, located at 900 S. Washington Ave., which will close June 14 for a similar renovation. When it reopens at the end of September, the restaurant will also feature a double drive-through.

In addition to the dual drive-throughs, the Dunmore restaurant now has plasma-screen televisions and ottoman seating. Customers, however, will likely first notice the difference in the restaurant's exterior.

The restaurant, which opened in 1972, was actually torn down and rebuilt.

"What we did here was we actually improved the site flow," said Bill Zuccarello, McDonald's area construction manager.

About 60 percent of McDonald's customers use the drive-through versus foot traffic in the store, he said. "We see more of the trends leaning toward drive-through vehicles."

McDonald's employees in Dunmore can now process twice as many drive-through orders at the same time, Mr. Zuccarello said. Cars alternate at the pick-up window.

Employees working the drive-throughs now see pictures of the vehicles as customers place their orders, which helps streamline service, increase productivity and better ensure accuracy, Mr. Zuccarello said.

Ms. Stella said she's seen a lot of changes in the restaurant over the years.

"I watched this restaurant transform," Ms. Stella said. "The theme was 'Flower Power' back in the '70s."

Customers, such as Bea and Pete Locker, both 71, of Throop, have seen the changes, too. They've been visiting the McDonald's in Dunmore since it opened nearly four decades ago. They were among the customers sipping orange juice from champagne glasses on Thursday.

"We come here almost every day," Mrs. Locker said.

Awesome!

Now twice the Fatty Mc Fat****s can load up on processed meat filler for lunch.

If this is anything like the bull**** dual drive through McDonald's here in Florida it's a complete waist of time. Two boxes to take your order and then the lines merge together to go to the same f***ing window. It's not like Checkers if that's what you are thinking.

I bolded the part where someone said 'Thank you for bringing the future to Dunmore.'.

For your reference, Dunmore, PA, neighboring town of Scranton.

Been around here for years as well. Sometimes you can jump a spot or 2 if you time your entry correctly.

Pretty sure I've seen these in Williamsport... I don't make a habit of frequenting such places these days, I'm sufficiently fat as is.

Wait til you find out that someone in an entirely different state is taking your order from a call center and relaying it to the restaurant remotely. A lot of those places don't actually have anyone in the facility taking orders as it reduces efficiency.

The more disheartening news is they are going to 'remodel' the one on Washington Ave, which is the last drive thru I know of that was made for cars. It was weird to drive up and not have to look up to see the person handing me my $1 sweet tea.

This, and I love it when people don't seem to understand there are two drive thru lanes for a reason and they all line up in one lane and I swoop into the second lane, place my order and jump ahead of all of them.

A morbidly obese woman almost t-boned me while speeding into the mcdonald's. I guess the double ordering lanes will cause less of this? I certainly hope so. I'd certainly hate it if someone wrecked my car because they needed 6 big macs, 3 supersized fries and 50 nuggets with a gallon of bbq sauce and a diet coke.

+1 been around for years here. I thought the story was describing some sort of new dual-drive through with two seperate lanes and two seperate pick ups..but alas, it's the 2 menu-merge system just like everywhere else.

Side story: Back in Texas, there was a place call 'Short Stop Hamburgers'. The building itself had a small footprint and no dine-in area, drive through only. The cool thing about it was it had two drive-thru windows: one on the side of the building and next to the first lane, another that extended out away from the building...alot like a drive through bank teller. They had built a food conveyer system that would deliver your order via an enclosed conveyer belt over the first drive through lane, then down an elevator to your car window.

As a 10 year old, it was magnificent to watch your food delivered to your car this way. And the burgers were pretty good too.
