Help me AKIC - Pick Kiwi a new work vehicle
AKIC folks.......
I am having a problem choosing my new company vehicle. They gave me 12 options that I have limited to four. What I will use it for: 1) Driving to and from office during winter 2) Driving to and from the operations in Denali National Park not that often during winter but a lot during summer 3) 95% of the time I drive with max of two people in car - 5% 4 max 4) I pay for fuel during winter, but when in operations during the summer company pays. What I am looking for - 1) Bang for buck! I take clients in car so leather and options etc would be nice 2) Good fuel milage would be a win as I only expense miles for work purposes and this would be a daily driver for me. 3) 4x4 would be nice, but not critical as a good FWD with studs can handle 95% of the conditions out there. The options that have are all ford as that is our fleet provider. 1) 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid - http://www.ford.com/cars/fusion/trim/hybrid/ 2) 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium http://www.ford.com/cars/fusion/trim/titanium/ 3) 2013 Ford Exploder XLT - lower trim package http://www.ford.com/suvs/explorer/trim/xlt/ 4) 2013 Ford Taurus Limited http://www.ford.com/cars/taurus/trim/limited/ I know this is a rough problem to have.... but I still can't pull the trigger yet and I need AKIC's help!!!! Thanks

Where is the "other - none of the above" option?!
Hmph! I voted for the hybrid. If it's a company vehicle and you don't have to worry about the battery replacement after so many miles then you might as well cash in on a hybrid car. |

I drive a Fusion hybrid a LOT at work. I've found it to handle great, looks good, pretty comfy and the hybrid really does work. I'm not a huge Ford person, but that's the one I would go get.

I really like the look of the middle class Aston Martin's, so I voted for both of those.

The Explorer gets my vote. I rented one for a few weeks and it was quite nice. It rode well, MPGs were good and it was roomy - much better than the last generation.

I vote for the Aston Martins also but you might as well bring in the Rolls Royce also... But really, I did vote for the hybrid. Like it was stated above, as long as you aren't paying for the replacement battery you might as well go for that!!

Out of those, the Taurus. I'm still having sweet dreams over driving Tractor's car.

That titanium sounds amazing, I didn't even know it existed. Ford made a WRX?

This is what I would do. AWD power. Lots of capability. The lower fuel economy won't be a huge factor for in-town commuting. Company pays for the summer miles.
I envy your "problem". Good luck. I would be happy to drive any of your 4 choices. |

LOL, I thought about posting 1st world problems.......
I fit in all the vehicles listed... that is what dropped off the list from 11 to 4! You know... the technology leap from the 2012 to 2013 is pretty impressive on Ford's part compared to Chevy! |

My mom and brother both have fusions, though they are a little bit older they are really nice, and neither them are hybrids and they get over 30mpg. My choice would be one of the fusions

Out of those listed, I honestly would pick the Explorer.
It has ground clearance for the frost heaves on the way up and back as well as many of the back roads around Denali. It has luggage capacity for shuttling the big wigs or guests. Has towing capacity should one need to tow their 22B The Fusion's look cool, though and I am digging the new SHO's. Won't find me in a hybrid though. |

AS far as comfort goes.esp for a big guy, you'd be hard pressed to find a roomier or more comfortable interior than the Taurus. The trunk was cavernous. Even Kiwi could lay down back there and close the lid.

+ a bunch even if its not the SHO the comforts and technology is a win win. Drive one this isn't your daddies Taurus. For the record I got 30mpg going to Girdwood and 25mpg going to Nikiski with some spirited passing. So far the AWD is great and the brakes feel solid with studded winters. But I believe the Titanium has the 2.0 ltr Ecoboost in it.

Before I vote, have you sat in ANY of those vehicles? I know I am not nearly as tall as you but I even have issues wit headroom in vehicles with sunroofs. With that in mind, I would shoot for the suv as you have a dog that will probably make the trip, and if you want to haul your family you will need a 7 passenger vehicle to fit them all and still have any room for stuff. So... Explorer gets my vote, bases on functionality alone.

I have sat in all the vehicles listed and they all fit! To be honest I was really surprised that the fusion did.
The fusion feels bigger than the Taurus due to the center consul of the Taurus. |
