What do you mean they need replacement? Fading, have you visually observed low pad thickness, just not working well enough?

I have these

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/c...463%7CL3*15694

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/c...463%7CL3*15694

And I've done some pretty intense braking, and they work great.

If your brakes are fading you're doing some realllllly hard driving or going down a really steep mountain, I didn't have to touch my brakes more than once or twice for a fraction of a second going through the Cascades. Semi metallic pads are cheaper and more resistant to fade at high temperature, but louder, wear faster, and eat away at the rotors faster.

Not fading. Only a little bit of brake pad left. Thanks.

Best part is those come with all of the hardware and some grease too, so not only are they cheaper than most other sets, you also don't need to buy anything else. I'm sure you already know this but just in case, you need to get those things nearly glowing to bed them in, and make sure you park while they're hot.

yeah...i've considering it. after the phone call, i thought about it, and ended up leaving him a voice mail later trying to be polite and gracious, and said, in good faith, would he consider refunding me the $90 odd bucks for the 4 spark plugs they installed. no response. he said he was supposed to report to the general manager after talking to me, so there's a small chance i will hear something later.

in the end, i'm probably wasting too much effort on this. my bad yelp review can hopefully steer people away from this lousy service department.

sorry to hear your leak is worse. i wouldn't be capable of such a repair, but if you are, i'm sure you would do it well. i think the service manual outlines the process very clearly and it sounds like you probably wouldn't even need it given your level of experience. good luck and maybe snap some pics along the way so the rest of us can be educated...

Wait.. I thought he told you, they'll do the spark plugs for free?

Eh.. double it. Sadly most of the people who go do the dealer services are like soccer moms, dads/kids who have no clue about cars and rave about the dealers ethics and works. But at least you'll get some attention on the forums

I'll probably look through the FSM tonight and see whether it's even worth my time. I've been thinking about just selling the car off, as of late, since I've been wanting to get back into the 4wheeling game and don't think it'll be worth the headache/time to repair it, but we'll see..

I don't even. It sounds like something a 2017 owner would come up with.

Well, if it makes you feel any better at all, I absolutely will not ever go to Carlsen Subaru based on your experience, and will actively discourage others from doing the same whenever I get the chance.

thanks. i guess that's good to hear. i don't want to badmouth anyone for a mistake. heck: even though i'm careful, i once forgot to put back on the oil cap on my wife's Prius (i even put it near the "locking mechanism" but somehow managed to close the hood anyway!)

but there were multiple mistakes that i wouldn't expect a dealer to make because they could easily be avoided with a minimal amount of care.

thanks everyone for listening to my venting.

Well, I read your Yelp review, it's pretty clear that their service was sub-par. You didn't even mention the bait-and-switch on the spark plug charges!

Thinking about buying this just because it's getting annoying to have to clean my engine bay so often. I would miss only taking a fraction of a second to do anything under the engine though.

+1. Never been fond of any dealers so far. Hell Capitol is even worse in terms of service. Stevens creek is part retarded.

Ahh, got it. Ridiculous IMO for $90 though. Maybe go to ABC about it?

Too bad everyone and their mom who just buys a subaru for their dog/family just think their service is top notch....

Hm well I guess I should be happy that the dealer I bought from is only "part retarded" Sounds like the best of a bad lot maybe?

I have never bought a new car before this one and so I am not entirely sure on the "proper protocol" for servicing. I had been assuming that the dealer I bought from was the best choice but perhaps I should be investigating independent auto shops. I did take it to Stevens Creek for the first "free" oil change/checkup and the only negative was the ridiculous lead time for the service appointment (no appointments for 1 month when I called). But I wouldn't be surprised to learn that dealers service is generally the most expensive and worst possible -- any time that there is an option that doesn't require much thought (such as new car buyers like myself just thoughtlessly choosing the dealer for service), there is the chance for extreme mediocrity because they are getting a good chunk of business on "inertia" versus "informed choice" ...

EDIT: Ha ha so I do a google search for "bay area subaru mechanic" and one of the first pages is a quora question where the top answer includes "Last but not least, Carlsen Subaru also has a good service department." !!!

I'm not sure about the proper protocol, but there are only a few dealers that have really made my time worth while. Toyota Sunnyvale is one of them, they went above and beyond to help me source a car and I was extremely pleased. Maybe step in over there and pretend you're looking for a car. You'll feel really good. But my experience with Stevens Creek was bad.. Not as bad as Capitol though. Stevens Creek, parts department wise, they're good. Capitol AFAIK, is good for service. My personal experience with their sales is utter BS.

Yea, dealers make a TON off you from their services. The issue with Carlsen is that it's centered around all the rich people who literally just down graded from an Audi/BMW to go to the snow/haul their dog, etc. Carlsen does a good job of catering to these people....... Hell, I'm not that old and look fairly young. The parts department guy was damn rude to me, but the woman in front of me who looked like the wife of a CEO. Damn, was he sucking up to her.

Check out Autohq. They're my go to and I recommend them to most people I know.

So I have a question, not sure if this is the right place to ask but figured I'd try. I own a 2014 impreza sedan (not that it matters to my issue lol) but today the wife and I were running late and she was rushing me and I always get clumsy when I'm rushing and I dumped my coffee all of the cup holders, seat belt clip, and the seat itself. And I got coffee inside the seat belt clip and now it no longer beeps at me when the passenger takes their seat belt off while we're moving and doesn't turn the air bag on. Think I might have broke a sensor or something not really sure. Still got 20km left on my 100km warranty, think it's covered ? Or anyone have this happen before ?

I doubt it would be covered since you damaged it.

You can try putting a towel down and running 70% alcohol through the buckle while working the mechanism to dislodge the solids.

Do that and if it doesn't work, tell them it just stopped working and see if they'll fix it.

Yeah I'll have to clean it out either way cause there's defiently sticky coffee residue in there it was quite a bit that went in, I'll clean it and give it a couple days before I call

So that seemed to work, spent an hour thoroughly cleaning it with 99% iso and let it sit over night and it'd working now so hopefully it doesn't stop again

Getting seriously tired of my wimpy little 75w kenwood under seat sub, enough that I no longer care about taking up some trunk space.

Anyone have anything to say about this this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER ?

I've never heard an RF sub I liked. A low frequency cutoff of 35Hz doesn't do it for me.

Having run several Infinity 10" subs in my vehicles over the years, I'd sooner take a chance on this:

What a coincidence, I haven't heard an Infinty speaker or sub I've liked. My RF amp is pretty tits which is why I was considering the sub, which is also highly rated.
