rain-x on all windows.. good or bad??
i was wondering if i should apply rain-x to all the windows. currently i only apply it to the front and back. i do not apply it to the side windows because of the fact that they roll up and down. i was wondering if the rain-x would somehow get rubbed off as the window gets rolled down and would somehow (dunno how) create a sort of adverse affect.

I do it on all windows and rearview mirrors. Less dirt sticks, water sheds....better visability. No problems with windows.

Here's a tip...
keep your wiper blades clean (i.e. when you fill up gas @ a gas station, take a few moments to wipe down your wiper blade). The cleaner your blades, the better it'll wipe the rain off of your windshield -- especially with rain-x. The rain-x will prevent the water from "sticking" to your windows, and the clean wiperblades just push almost all of the water off!
The best part of rain-x is when the water gets "pushed" off of the window -- especially @ highway speeds! LaterZ! Darren!! |

I do put Rain X on all my windows and it is great! Sometimes when I roll down the windows the weather stripping sticks to the window, but it doesn't hurt anything.

I have only had to apply rain-x once. The secret is to use the Rain-X washer fluid, it keeps a nice layer of rain-X on your windsheild so you dont have to reapply it ever few months.

Hehe, funny story about rain-x, I use it on all of my windows, that stuff rules. But anyway I was parked in a reserved spot (not labeled as such) one day and got a huge orange "you're gonna get your a$$ towed" sticker on the drivers side window. And those are always a pain to get off, but not when rain-x is on there. It peeled off so easily it was like it wasn't ever there. I wanted to go find the guy's car that put it on there and stick it to his car but I couldn't find it.

i've been using rain-x on all exterior windows for long time and love it. however, I recently started using Castrol's new product(? accu-view ? not sure of product name). It is easier to apply and doesn't fog up as much. I've always noticed that with a light rain or drizzle, rain-x tends to fog up a little - the castrol product doesn't do this as bad. try it.

NO need for that Rain-X, seriously. After you de-wax your car, use that whatever you remove the wax with (cheese cloth... whatever) and rub/clean the glass with it.
I am not saying to wax the window, just use that piece of cloth and clean the window with it, inside and out. No glaze. Last longer than Rain-X. Just do a test, rub the right side glass with rain-x and left with that cloth. Observe the difference when it rains. No difference, and it does not cost extra. |

I waxed the windows before. Z-BEST car wax/polish claims their product will work on many surfaces...so I applied some to the windows...nice and shiny and helps the watershed.

Unless they have changed their formula I say NO RAIN-X.. period. It just fogs up the side windows in the south. To me it's like Armour All on the dash.. causes more reflections that what it's worth. Another good idea with poor results..

Waxing the windows might be a bit much, will cause glazing that affect night time vision. At least that's what I experienced. Just use the same cloth after you remove the wax. PITA to apply rain-x, have to clean the window thoroughly and all. Use the wax cloth method inside and out. Don't even need Windex for cleaning the inside of the window. Just make sure your windows are dried.

I agree with BlueBox! I tried it once and I hated it! Maybe they've changed it since then...don't know. When I used it, lights from oncoming traffic, etc, tended to be blurry, and the wipers didn't work optimally.

I used to use rain-x. But if you don't apply it often, it will make the window less clear after awhile. I applied rain-x once, and after 3 months, my window will produce this white film after rain, and it will stick to the wiper blades! I will never use it again, not worth the hassle.
It is good for the first 3 weeks or so, but totally not worth it if you don't apply it often. |

I've used RAIN-X for six months on all my windows and it works great. I've had no problems with hazing or fogging. I haven't seen the added glare like some have said. It's great in downpours, the only time I use my wipers is when I'm following someone and getting mist from their wheels.

I think the key to Rain-X is how you apply it. I've used the product with mixed results. The first time I tried it, it worked great. I tried again on another car and it caused the windsheild wipers to chatter and there was a slight blur i.e. "Halos" around light sources. Give it a shot, just make sure you follow the directions

Ice scrapes off the windows early in the morning easier with rain x on there too. Also makes your car the last one in the parking lot to get frost. Well from my experience anyway. Its funny to see your car as the only one with no frost
If you keep up the applications and do it to CLEAN windows there really isnt a haze problem, Ive used it for 4 years on my GL |

Frankly, I don't know how I survived without Rain-X. The stuff kicks ass. I tried Rain-away once cause Crappie tire was out of Rain-X and almost crashed. DO NO USE Rain-Away.
The comment about using it on your house, gotta try that! Seriously, with all the other comments about hazing and fogging (which doesn't happen to me), I can't see those negatives out-weighing the effect this stuff has on your windshield. I find I don't even need to use my wiperblades since the rain just beads up and runs off the windshield with the wind. Especially when a transport or big Rig sprays all that mist from the wet roads and your are trying to pass. Or worst, when a Van on the other side of the highway hits a big pool of water and this wave of water comes across the divider and almosts blinds you (not mention almost busting through the windshield). You will wish you had Rain-X on then |
