Default helix dp and borla hush-back?

i was just curious if the helix downpipe and borla hush back (on an '04 WRX sedan) will mate up without any modification. i did a bit of searching and i'm hearing conflicting reports....

as your search indicated, i've heard that it doesn't fit up correctly. the helix dp and borla midpipe dont have the same flange or something. i think one uses a douhnut flange like the stocker, and one has a flat flange.
i'm not positive on this though.

here is the deal. the helix pipe has a flat flange on the end. the borla also has a flat flange on the end. what it also has is a portion of the pipe that the donut gasket fits into that will protrude past the flat flange. it will slide into the helix pipe and you can bolt it up. so basically the cup portion of the borla that holds the donut gasket protrudes past the flat flange and will slide into the helix. i will try to take a few pix friday to show you what i am talking about. (i won't be able to get under my car until then)

thought i'd throw this back up again, and see if there were any pictures of this.... got my helix/borla combo, and they seem like they go together fine... the borla fits into the helix, which has a lip inside that stops the borla from going any further... and they look like they'll bolt together fine as well...??? i know this has been gone through quite a bit... but i'm wodering if maybe they changed the design recently, or something else..?? any comments/pictures would be appreciated...

yes i'd like to see pics.....everyone says they won't connect or i'd have to have a shop weld the correct flange on.

It will bolt up without modifications. the borla has a flat flange with a portion that protrudes outward that would hold the donut gasket if you were going to use the stock downpipe. With any 3 inch aftermarket dp, the part that protrudes outward will slip into the mouth of the downpipe, allowing the flange of the borla to be bolted up normally. the problem (if there will be one) with the helix dp is that on some of them the flange isn't straight. This results in any catback leaking. Trust me on this. I bolted a helix/hush setup on my car without cutting or welding anything. It will work.

No leaks, no problems.

steel ring insert? where'd you get one of those? do you have pictures possibly?

rickyh seems to be the only one who's done this without any modification (which is awesome), is there anyone else? the pieces i have do seem to go together fine.... whether or not they still line up when they get on the car is another story, i guess.
