even if they offered the sunroof, id never get it. they are well known to have issues such as leaks that cant be resolved and creaking and squeaks.

Oh wow, glad I asked - I had no idea about the longer warranty on the 18's. Also good info on the upgraded DSG transmission. The car will be primarily for my wife (i.e. no manual), and all the upgrades in the cabin and safety equipment are definitely worth the extra cash over a used '17 as far as she's concerned. Er as far as I'm concerned for her... You know what I mean.

Also she wants the car in black, so the potential new colors for the '19 don't really factor in to our decision. Also good to hear (I guess?) that the '19 doesn't expect any major upgrades, so no reason to nervously buy an '18 or anxiously wait for the '19 release. We'll just buy when we're ready - easy!

check cars.com for inventory. black and red are the easiest colors to find. beware of some dealers asking $39k or so. its 100% false advertising. i paid $41k for my dsg and it was a fight to get it for that.

Well, ive had it a bit over a week now. I know everyone says hatches are more practical, but my wrx sedan had a lot more room to haul stuff. Since i have a trailer and cx-5, thats really not an issue. Anyways, aside from having to adapt to the euro wiper and high beam stalks i love it. Very comfortable, calm, and docile Normally, but it turns into a beast when you want. The constant pull from the wide powerband and lack of shift time is great. Assuming its reliable, it will be my favorite car so far and ive owned a lot.

For me the hatchback has the potential to haul more. There is no load sill or ceiling a trunk forces you to work around. Both will fit golf bags and groceries for daily duties with seats up just fine. Even with the seats up, Iíve gone on long road trips and camping trips with a family of 4 plus Loweís runs with soil bags and tall plants in the GTI. It has never ceased to amaze how much I could fit in the tiny hatch. I got a cooler and two suitcases plus a bag of groceries to fit a few weeks ago. No way that cooler fits into an Impreza trunk. Prolly not a Legacy trunk either.

I have been able to keep the miles off the Legacy wagon by taking the GTI. Every single trip I lay out the stuff we need and if it doesnít fit in the GTI we take the Lego. Havenít needed the Lego once since getting rid of the Corolla and getting the GTI. Glad youíre liking your R. That warranty is priceless...

Tall stuff like Plants and shrubs it is better than my wrx. But for stuff that i haul more (gas cans, tires, shotguns and rifles) the sedan is superior. I could easily fit my guns in the trunk without folding the seats. Not happening with a hatch. Its far too short.

This was the part to me that separates it from it's rivals. When you are in heavy traffic, bad conditions, or simply not in the mood you put it in comfort mode and it doubles as a regular docile Golf. When you are more frisky you put it in race mode and it transforms to a Golf R.

why does he keep saying the focus rs is quicker? its not. 0-60 is a tie if you take the best time for the rs and average time with the golf r with the old 6 speed dsg, the 1/4 mile et and mph are also higher in the golf r. im sure if the new 7 speed was tested it would be even quicker.

I find that no one can agree on which Golf R transmission should be tested for comparison.
They've tested the manual R vs the RS, and complaints were that the slower R was used.

Then, they put a DSG R against the RS, and the fanboy's complained that it was an unfair, because the DSG shifts faster then a human can.

I mean, really...

/that's all I got.

its inaccurate info that he repeats multiple times. non subjective things should be passed along with accuracy.

If Doug thinks the Golf R is an overpriced Golf, I would love to hear what his thoughts are on the S3 and RS3.

Drivers race between them. But I forgot, a tenth matters the most on the etherwebz.
Either way, being concerned about what some you-boob reviewer says

well, the DSG R takes the driver's element out of it... Really, there's no reason to even have a driver in a 0-60 race with the DSG R. It's just mash the pedal to the floor and go. The lane keep assist (standard on 18+) would even keep the thing from veering into the wall, and the front collision system would stop the car before hitting something.

Hence why I'm driving a manual.

Last night I installed euro tails with the dynamic turn signal. I really just couldn't get over the fact that there was no amber turn signal, and the turn signal and brake signal are shared.

Not my image, but these are what I installed.

Well, the tails are available on all golfs in other markets, not just on R's. Technically they don't meet us regulations, so they're not available here. Us regulations are based on square inches of light where as EU regs are based on lumens. Leave it to the us to be preoccupied with size rather than quantity.

Still canít believe they removed the sunroof- mine is open practically everyday. Total deal breaker for me, I know it probably seems petty, but Iím in California I got to have a sunroof.
