yeah im gonna try and find another exhaust like you said,
but other than the what weve talked about all the pumps and other accesories from the ej18 will work?
if they do that would make it really easy since its already using the 1.8 ECU

Natoe,
You need some sort of downpipe, which is not to be found on your Ej18. I've got a Legacy Turbo one in my garage. $25+ freight and it is yours. Then you will need to get a mid-pipe cut to mate up in the right position...

If you use your Ej18 manifold, all your sensors and accessories will wire right up with no splicing at all. The only thing you will need to mess with is putting in the little mini fuel rail with injectors from the Ej22t.

hmm, ill think about that and get back to you about the downpipe, do you happen to have the turbo crossmember as well?

i thought i remember hearing that the ej18 manifold wont bolt up... and if it does is it any more restrictive?

he's refering to the intake manifold not the exhaust manifold (headers)...get the crossmember & headers w/the engine if you can, that's how I got mine from the junkyard.

oooh ok thanks, but by using the legacy headers does that mean the sensors would have different plugs that wouldnt work with the 1.8 ECU?

Nope, no sensors in the headers. I've got a set of those as well. Add another $35 to the deal for them, plus freight. Sorry, no crossmember. Legacy777 got my last one, and it ships today...

According to my local Subaru dealership you should have 2 3/4'' or 3'' piping for a turbo engine. Im guessing the stock 1.8L is much smaller.

Then why is a WRX barely 2.25" from the factory? My point is your comments are out of context. There are gains to be made with bigger exhaust on a turbo, but this guy is just trying to get the engine (a 160hp Legacy engine) in the car and running at this point.

Natoe:
I have done the following:
Ej20G into '90 Legacy with '94 WRX harness and ECU
Ej20G w/Ej22T heads into a 1.8l Impreza w/stock ECU (now with E-manage as well)
Ej25 w/Ej22E heads into a 1.8l Impreza (actually have built a couple of these for Legacies too)
And my 11.5:1 EJ25 build in my RS along with a bunch of other random mechanic work on USDM Legacy Turbos, WRX's and RS's...

wow, well im glad im getting info from experianced swappers!
i am just now waiting for a call back from the guy with the engine for pricing and if it will come with the downpipe etc.

so to make sure i heard everything right, i am going to put the engine in my 95 coupe with the stock tranny, use the 1.8 ECU, AND 1.8 wiring harness to plug into the motor (so i wont even have to touch my ecu right?) use all the acessories from the 1.8 on the 2.2 like PS pump etc. and then it will be pretty much done, and i will eventually get a better exhaust for it since the 1.8 will choke it.
AWESOME, im really excited about this, and ill be getting help from my friends, and old autoshop teacher, and you guys.
thanks a load for helpin me out so quickly, i was waiting for this info so i knew i could do it.
thank you thank you thank you.
ill keep the progress updated.

Ok I had a slight freak out and almost wanted to rewire my car. I spoke with sean at rallitek and he calmed me down.

my turbo hoses didnt get here so I still cant do anything

makesure you get all of the intake piping and box. I havve to build my own turbo inlet and outlet to the intercooler and that is what I am waiting on.

How much did you guys pay for your engines with the stock turbo if you dont mind me asking... i just paid for mine yesterday, $850 that was with the crossmember and the turbo with the up and downpipe. it was just fresh on the lot and they took it out of the car for me. is that too much?

That's about right for that swap. As has been mentioned, just make sure you get all of the inlet plumbing from the MAF to the TB...

well, since I live in Redneck wyoming, the guy who had the Legacy SS that I bought didn't have a clue as to what the car was. It was missing the hood and was smashed in abit on rear drivers side. My room mate said " this thing is gonna take so much work! c'mon its trashed we're not spending over 400." It worked. I got the whole car for $400!!!!!!! It was almost a sin to strip it.

anyway lastnight got my turbo in and my stromung 3" turbo back with Kartboy long urathane hangers. Its fricken awesome. And the rest of my hoses came so I spent til 3 this morning fitting and cutting and staring at the motor trying to figure out the routing of the coolant lines with my new header tank. and I think I have got it.

Tonight hopefully I can get the rear differential in and hope that I dont find something else that I still need to do.

Tip: get either the forester intercooler or the EARLY jdm wrx intercoolers, my usdm intercooler is a pain to fit!!!!

No I am not going to use the forester. I SHOULD use one but I have already worked to hard at cutting out the ignitor mount and bashing in the firewall with a mallet

but if I get the chance, or if i can find one, I will buy a early JDM slant wrx intercooler.

Right now I am going out to reroute my coolant lines since I am using the header tank off of a wrx, since the stock tank broke and it wont fit with my intercooler any way. I am also gonna try to reroute the wires coming out of the firewall since they kinda rest on my downpipe.

Natoe: make sure you get the entire clutch/brake pedal assembly and the master cylinder for the hydrauloc clutch. I couldnt remeber if you said you were getting it. unless you are using your stock tranny, then you just need a beefier clutch.

Yeah, i am just going to use my stock tranny for a while until i blow it up, which shouldnt take long with the stock clutch...
Tonight was the last time i drove my car with the 1.8L!!!
my friends and i drained everything and got the main wiring labled and unplugged from the engine, and tomarrow we will pull it from the tranny. ill try and get a pic of just what weve done so far, nothin exciting but im really glad its actually getting done!
how do i post pictures?

if your car is running before mine, I am gonna be really cranky!!!!! I have tomarrow off so hopefully I can get some "bi-ness" done. I do have to help put a cold air intake on my girlfriends fathers Saturn VUE.

I want my friends to help me with my swap

Tonight I routed the coolant lines though!!!! Of the 10 total lines carrying coolant, i had to reroute about 4 of them. got my wrx header tank in by taking a hose under the intake manifold from the drivers to pass side.

I broke some of the Pcv plastic lines so I have to figure out something else tomarrow.

I also cut got most of my intake tract in. I was trying to do the "mugger" mod but my mug doesn't fit correctly. so it is back to the drawing board. I hope to the last two items in tomarrow: Intake manifold and INtercooler. I am expecting delays.

Isn't that the greatest feeling turning your 1.8 off of the last time. I revved to the rev limit one final time and had to hold back the tears. I need to post pics of this project as well.

Tomarrow, tomarrow.........

Yes yes, it was a sad feeling, and i too revved it to 6 several times on the way home...
you should definetly post some pics! and let me know how your wiring situation is going.
there is no way mine will be running before yours, i dont even get my engine until tuesday, we just started removing the 1.8, and i sense were going to have a milllion wiring problems.

Here is my engine before we touched it:

Here is the car itself:

(I added that right mirror! Since the base doesnt come with one )

Here is me working on it:

and Here is what we have done so far:
