BMXpunk,
Get me some pics to work with, and I can probably match your PVC lines for you.

you should definetly post some pics! and let me know how your wiring situation is going.
there is no way mine will be running before yours, i dont even get my engine until tuesday, we just started removing the 1.8, and i sense were going to have a milllion wiring problems.
Are you going to be using the 2.2t ecu? If you are sticking with the 1.8 ecu, you shouldn't have to do any wiring. Just unbolt your intake manifold from the heads. And then swap it onto the 2.2. My brother ran his car this way for well over a year. He beat the every loving crap out of the car too. His set up was basically a 1.8 intake manifold and sensors/wiring on 2.2t block and heads, vishnu uppipe, vf22, hks downpipe, legacy turbo injectors, ITC, AFC and FMIC. I would guess he ran it for close to 35k miles this way. I would do it this way just to avoid the wiring. But that's just me because I hate wires.

Yeah, I am using the 1.8 ECU and intake manifold, was all the wiring straight forward? can it be done without an AFC? We should be able to pull the 1.8 from the car very soon once we get the engine lift.
thanks

I think I have it figured out but if I get more stuck I will definately send some to you. Even if it just helps out natoe here.

FOund a coffee cup to work for my mugger mod. its blue to contrast with my red intake manifold/piping, and match my blue NGK plug wires.

There is no wiring to worry about. When you unbolt the 1.8 intake manifold, just leave the engine harness and all sensors attached to it. Then bolt it to the 2.2 block and heads. When everything goes back in, plug it in and your all set. You will need to transfer your cam and crank sensors over though.

I would not recommend doing this without some fuel control. Whether it be an AFC or emanage or whatever. Some sort of timing control would help too. My brother is selling his HKS AFR and Apex ITC. Let me know if your interested.

You have forgotten that you need to remove and cap the EGR on the 1.8l manifold.

Oh yeah. I remember doing that to a friends 95 1.8. I don't recall doing it on my brothers 96 though. Maybe it's different because ones OBD I and the other is OBD II?

to take care of the EGR do i just not run the vaccum line to the valve but leave it bolted to the manifold?
matt- pm me a price for the controllers, id just like to see how it runs without them for a while but it may be something id like to get.
Transferring the cam and crank sensors- is straight forward since its easy to get them out of the block?
I am sure ill be able to figure these things out its just ive never done anything like this before... thanks a bunch for the help.

We ran into a problem today trying to pull the 1.8L, we cant get it seperated from the transmission even after lifting it out of the mounts... we know all the mounts are off and we have got a half inch gap between the two but they wont seperate! It is quite frustrating. the yard didnt have my engine tuesday so im going to get it tomarrow hopefully, and put it in ASAP.
Thanks! ill post some pics when we get it done!

swapping the crank and cam sensors is cake. unblot-move-rebolt-tighten.

I had the same problem with my ej 22 tranny but the shift forks are different. you should just be able to pull if all of the mounts are off. If you are very careful you could use a pry bar to helpyou. Come to think of it, my ej18 were sticky but they did pul apart after some jiggling and a little prying.

No, its a FWD 5 speed.
We did gently use a prybar, and even when we pull the lift away from the car it pull the engine AND tranny as far as the pitch stop lets it.
There were 2 motor mounts we took off (it is up off the crossmember already), and there were 2 upper engine-tranny bolts, and 2 lower engine-tranny studs so i believe its all undone but wiggling and such doesnt help

i didnt think we had to remove the pitch stop to get the engine out... do we need to? Right now the tranny is connected everywhere, and we have a jack under it for support.

Yes,
You do. Right now, you are probably binding on the two guide pins between the engine and the tranny, and are pulling too much up and not enough out. And if you are not careful, you will pull a pin out into the engine from the tranny. Don't ask me how I know this...

Well we JUST got them seperated and the engine out, we jsut had to take the pitch stop, the radiator and fan out (we arent smart enough to do that first) and it came out easy enough.
here is proof: haha

haha, wouldnt taking them out the bottom be a lot more work? removing the crossmember, steering, and some suspension stuff, while i just moved the radiator.
but my next step is to remove the crossmember anyways... ive never taken apart any steering components before :P but oh well.
oh! and for a while ill be driving around with no front sway bar... that should be exciting, thatll be something i get very soon.

As the engine goes, my junkyard told me that the engine i ordered turned out to be a bad one but supposively he got me another one and is including the turbo piping and crossmember so im still happy. im gonna pick it up today!

NO its not too hard because you dont have to disconect the tranny

4 crossmember bolts
4 tranny cross member bolts
6 strut top nuts
1 pitch stopper bolt
1 steering knuckle bolt
put the front on jack stand
lower entire drivetrain with hydraulic jack

takes about 12minute total on my third time ( so what if I forgot the clutch fork the first time I had everything in the car)

yeah i guess your way would be easier if i needed the tranny out but i just left i there.
im so sad because my junkyard didnt have my engine, then they found one, it was bad though, then they found one but turned out it wasnt a turbo, and now they are 100% sure that this one they found is actually what i paid for and it will be ready friday even though i ordered it last thursday!
they just better not come up with another lame excuse for it not being ready or im screwed since my engine is already out of my car...
cant wait till i get it in and running though! ive driven my friends talon tsi, and god i love the sound of turbos spooling. how close is yours to running bmxpunk?
