naTOE - I used the 2.2 manifold. I would also reccomend swapping the coolant line thingy ( big aluminum one) from the 1.8 onto the 2.2 It makes things way easier because the wires for the coolant match up way better.

oooh yeah the water line, we swapped that since the wires didnt reach where the plugs were on the 2.2 water line. ill try and swap the throttle bodies today, cept i should get a new gasket first. so bmxpunk are you ending up just using the 1.8 ecu and wires? or perfect power?

what is the best way to cap off the turbo IAC? and by that not being there what will it lack?

thanks

There's a pair of coolant lines that you just delete, and straight line to the manifold. And then there is a breather that needs to be capped. We used an end cap from a sprinkler system and a hose clamp. I don't remember what diameter. 1" or 1 1/4" IIRC. We bought a couple and crammed them in until we got one with a tight seal...

ok so if we set up the turbo IAC like this, it should work? we used hoses from the 1.8 to cool the 1.8 throttle so no coolant lines are even going to the turbo IAC. Of course we have to then plug that breather, but this will work?

We arent sure about the importance of these fuel lines, one comes from the the firewall then goes to a tank by the radiator, then it comes back through the other to the purge... my 1.8 doesnt have that extra something thats by the radiator, so can i just connect those two to each other?

The tank by the radiator is black?? If so it is the charcoal emissions canister. Wyoming doesn't have emissions laws so am leaving mine out. I also made my own parrallel fuel line so I couldn't put it back in.

you will need to cap off that line in the fire wall that you didn't use.

Have you found the little "clay" colored solenoids under your intake manifold? If I am not mistaken, they open to allow fuel vapor into your intake tract. Emissions thing. Mine are gone and I am expecting a CEL.

Does any one see anything wrong with splicing in some wire for my 02 sensor? The two plugs dont quite match up. My wrx exhaust positions it farther back than the stock exhaust had it.

I used the 2.2 throttle body and TPS and spliced on the connector from the legacy harness. Have yet to see if it will work. I think the perfect power might save me here by interupting the signal.

11:00pm and on the way out to the car...

the tank by the radiator would be black but i dont have one, and oregon doesnt have emissions testing either so we just routed it to itself.
the EGR solenoid is gone, but we still have the purge on there since we assume thats important.
isnt splicing the O2 sensor what an AFC does kinda? i think its ok.
i have the 1.8 throttle on the 2.2 manifold, we got everything IN the car including the downpipe, loaded it with fluids, disconnected the plugs, and turned the engine over a bunch!!! it seemed like it was turning good! it was too late to start the engine with no muffler since we would wake up the neighborhood but tomarrow we will try and start it!
...when we pluged the battery in, turn it to accesories, and took the key out, it kept a weird buzzing noise coming from around the throttle, it went away if we disconnected and reconnected the battery... not sure what thats all about.

check it out... ignore the tape job on the airbox thats obviously temporary haha.

Hey Matt---
we plugged the turbo IAC breather off with a spark plug wire, fits really nice and snug, hahaha... then the coolant lines are re routed and plugged in each other like my earlie post shows.

see the plug?

Are you in need of the resonator box that goes between the MAF and that elbow that you have all taped up? I have one, and can save you the trouble of doing the coffee mug mod...

IT STARTED.
First try, at 10:33 pacific time July 21 2005... sorry man i beat you, but yours will be pretty awesome if you are putting a dif turbo and intercooling it. We started it with just the downpipe on.. it sounded like a V8 haha, i dont know what im going to do for exhaust.

I need a picture of your intake mod, or a link to how to do it... i cant find it anywhere.

Of all things stopping me from driving it, its the control arm, the brackets that bolt on the unibody on the passenger side, are crossthreaded or something and will not go in, and it doesnt even really fit at all three contact points, so some persuading with a hammer is going to have to do the job. then its ready to go! (cept exhaust and taped intake but oh well im driving it)

lemme know how starting yours goes! mine obviously runs very rich at idle, you can smell it/ hear it, but it starts right up and it revs faster than the 1.8.

ya know the little flywheel gaurd that is below between the tranny and engine? is it supposed to have a little slit in it????? mine does, and i forgot to put it on so i will have to take the engine off the engine mounts and lift it up a bit to put that on, (after i test drive it though) but it looks kinda important.

aaawesome, anyways, do you know how to hook up a boost gauge? i want one just cuz, and because i wanna know if the wastegate is working...

k im off to get some hardware for the exhaust fittings!

Your 1.8l MAF is no different than the turbo one. So, yes it would work. We used the stock MAF on Bugman's car.

As far as your control arm issue, take the time to do it right. Re-tap the threads. That is the contact point for your whole front end suspension to the chassis. You don't want that shearing off on you at speed in some hard turn.

And you can install the flywheel guard with the engine in the car, no problemo...

There wasnt room to put the flywheel gaurd on, the crossmember and oil pan are in the way, but i can just lift it up out the engine mounts a bit to put it on, but is it supposed to have a slit in it?? like in the middle..
the control arm just doesnt fit though... when its in the pivot point, the bracket doesnt match up, and viceaversa.. :P i hope we have a tap+die set...
thanks

THe bad part is you started last weekend and I started last september. BUt i replaced a ton of stuff. Well, everything is in mine but I cant get the clutch to bleed correctly so I have to take the inter cooler out tomarrow to try to redo it. Any suggestions form anyone? I am gonna try to do it from bottom to the top like we do for mountainbike disk brakes. Its just really tight with the firewall.

I filled mine with oil and turned it over to pump it through the engine. But It wont start. I am wondering if it has to do with using the legacy throttlebody and tps with the impreza harness and ECU (swapped plugs). But at the same time, the battery was really dead, and it was brand new two months ago. GOnna try to charge it and see if that helps.

I ma checking wiht sean at rallitek to make sure I wired everthing corectl with my perfect power. Then I put THe diff in.

Congrats man!!!! I will try to post the mug mod next week like tuesday. I might mail the pics to you and you can host them if you want.

Yes my motor had a slit for the flywheel cover. My wheel-I -mean -Engine -stand kinda bent it up.

yeah my wheel/engine stand kinda bent it.. but i still need to put it on...

its so sweet that it started.. but there are some major leaks! like... i warmed it up a bit and was revving some and coolant started gushing out of somewhere, like a lot, not sure where, prolly some of the lines we rerouted from the resevoir tank we removed.
then also... there was a small puddle of oil that leaked out after the first time i started it sooo.... im hoping they are just bad hose connections i can fix, ill be looking for them tomarrow, but its been way too hot here to do anything, i cant stand mid 90's weather..
things i have left are:
coolant leaks
oil leaks
turbo-downpipe gasket
turbo back exhaust ???
intake, mug mod maybe?
passenger control arm wont fit at the moment

then ill be driving around... my main goal of this swap besides it just being awesome is so i can dominate hondas, i cant stand little ricer guys in civics. i dont plan on doing anything visually to my car besides maybe finding an outback sport hood or something, later if i intercool it.

good luck gettin it running, we did the swap fast enough my battery wasnt able to die haha... feel free to mail me the pics and i can post em
-nathan

haha, well i keep running into dead ends, and i need help so i look on here...
i cant find where my leaks are coming from really.

we ran lines that went into the black coolant reservoir into themselves, that shouldnt cause any problems right?

ill go out in the garage right now and attempt to figure out some more stuff!

Hey man I work in a bike shop all day and go work on my car for 6-8 hours. I see too much shop time, and not under my own terms.

Matt any suggestions on why mine wont start?

ok, so bmx punk, are you using the legacy radiator? if not, how are you routing the extra coolant lines?

i am not totally sure if both lines coming from the elbows in the water pump, are both coming? or is one sucking? can you think of anyway that i could eliminate that black tank reservoir because it connects into the radiator which i am using my 1.8 rad...
right below the tank, there are 3 lines, 2 from the water pump and one to the water pipe, which heater hoses go where and then the one from the turbo?
basically do you think i need to get the radiator from the legacy or not?
thanks, sorry for being confusing, its late, im going to bed.

Ok I might be really confusing here bt try to follow. I hooked up the two lines from the waterpump, just like they were on the 1.8. From there, I took a line from the water pipe under the intake manifold over to the wrx header tank that i bought, and hooked it to the bottom bung. I hooked the top big port to the top of the wrx turrbo. THen the top two lines i routed, one to reenter the radiator at tne now modified top cap (cut off pressure thingy) and the other line coming from the tank( the one coming out the side of the pressure cap) goes to the overflow tank.

Havent worked on my car again. But got my perrin Electronic boost controller in the mail. GOnna try to wire it to perfect power tonight.

Got stiches from a water slide accident at six flags!!!

hmm ok i kinda followed that, but what radiator are you using? is it the 1.8L one? how did you modify your cap to allow coolant to enter there?
sorry to hear about your accident! have fun atleast?
thanks for the help
