Loaner Legacy 2.5GT Ltd...
I dropped off my 2.5RS to get stongard put on and ended up with a Legacy 2.5GT Ltd loaner. It is an automatic so that sort of sucks (the "sport" mode on the tranny is a joke) but wow, that car is nice! Sort of makes me regret getting the 2.5RS, but then again having an onboard computer telling me I'm getting 17mpg helps dull the pain.

The 2.5rs and Legacy 2.5gt really aren't really in the same price range though. |

Yes, as I have said stated before, Subaru has made a huge mistake moving "upscale" and creating gas hogs on par with many SUVs at a time when cheap energy is a memory and the average American's real disposable income will shrink when the housing mania no longer allows them to pull "equity" out of their overinflated homes. This goes against their previous philosopy of creating relatively frugal cars that were extremely useful, not overengineered and versatile with AWD. No longer. The Tribeca is the worst offender of Subaru's marketing strategy, dare I call it the pinnacle: ugly and overstylized, of marginal utility (vs. a real truck based SUV), overweight, and a gas hog. I know people with the new Outbacks (with the turbo 2.5 and 3.0 six) that are consistently getting 16mpg city and they are already regretting their purchases. The average sports car driver (Impreza WRX/STI) probably is less sensative to gas prices....they know it comes with the territory but your average soccer mom, white bread middle class joe will feel like he was sold a bill of goods when he traded in his old Outback/Legacy etc...in for the newer model and of course went for the top of the line one and now gets 2/3 the mileage compared to his previous wagon.

So an instantaneous reading of 17mpg on a turbocharged 3200lb car suddenly makes it a gas hog? Gimme a break and return the soapbox.

I'm averaging about 18mpg (I am driving kind of hard of course). I think it is a great car and i'm okay with that gas milage considering it does have 250hp. It definately is a different beast than the first legacys and outbacks.

I am currently on my 24 hour test drive with a Tribeca and the on board computer is telling me I am getting 9.9 miles per gallon
It's a shame because it is really a great vehicle even if it looks like a carp with a big ass. |

I get 32 mpg on the highway... but a dismal 19 mpg in Morgantown (the land of hills and terrible traffic flow). I really need to get my scooter (honda ruckus) so I can make the RS a highway only car.

My WRX gets about 19mpg city. 18 if I don't keep my foot out of the joy zone. Gets about 28 or so on the highway doing 80, even with my wing causing more drag.
But yeah, those Legacy GTs are nice. I'm trying to talk my friend into getting one. He says he wants something sporty but with leather. I want him to be different than everybody else and NOT get a BMW. |

When the fuel guage reaches empty its time to fill up again.
Thats all there is to it. I don't know what I get in my Rex but it doesn't matter to me. Seriously if gas mileage is a concern, either get a different car or drive more conservatively. |

I burned half a tank in that thing in less than 24 hours.
Then I put in premium. The gas mileage got WAY better almost instantly. |
