Default 04 sti engine in an 02 wrx

How hard is it to install an 04 sti engine in an 02 wrx, what is involved, can I keep my 5 speed trans, can u keep the stock ecu, Or do have to swap them out to how difficult would that be, The reason im asking shese questons are because I can get this 04 sti engine for 3k and I was thinking about doing the swap, Or would it just be easy to just swap the sti shortblock out, And yes I have searched but I just can't find the answer's im looking for, Please no smart ass remarks as im still new to this!

the big problem is the drive by wire throttle. You need to get the pedal assembly and so forth, which i think means your are going to need the STi ecu too, but i could be wrong on that last part. i think swapping the heads off the shortblock might technically be more work. the ej257 should just drop right in and bolt up to your 5 speed. at least i hope, because i am planning the same thing for february

Just change the intake manifold, for your wrx one with cable throttle. Drill and tap for cam sensor, and be done with it.
