Just change the oil when you do the timing belt or when it gets milky white. Should be no big deal. I use 0w-20 with Wesson SuperCurlyFry technology.
Just kidding. Oil can be complicated or simple. If you want to keep it simple, just do a T6 oil change now.

If you want a good Amsoil 5W-30 use the Series 3000 HDD. Similar additive package to the 10W-40 which is as high as the old Rotella API SL/Ci4+ oil. The TBN is also very high so you could probably do 7,500 miles easy. -Dennis |

Over the years I've seen a lot of cars that have been driven without regular oil changes. Over the long term it will shorten the life of the engine. But doing it once shouldn't be a problem.
I've been using Mobil 1 5w-30 in my 2002 bugeye wagon ever since I bought it new. I followed the interval in the owner's manual until the warranty expired. The dealer was willing to do the labor and provide the filter for free just for the chance to hunt for extra work on the car. Since then I've continued with Mobil 1 but switched to the Pure One oil filter. Two years ago I went to extended intervals. I change it once a year whether it needs it or not. I figure if BMW can warranty their cars for one year 15,000 miles between changes when using an approved synthetic, then I should be able to go one year and 5,000 miles. After the first year I sent a sample off to Blackstone. They suggested I extend farther. My Subie is low mileage. I just went past 50,000 miles last week. The only time I have to put oil in is when I change it. On a side note. I just went Stage One with a COBB access port. I have plans to make some conservative mods. I can't put any 5w30 in my 2010 WRX. The engine just eats it up like candy and I have to top it off every couple of fuel fill ups. Doesn't matter the brand, just eats it right up. So I made the switch to T6 a while back and now I barely have to top it off every 1500-2000 miles. Of course I drive my modded WRX hard unlike some of the sissy's I hear.
PS Mobil 1 5w30 was the worst oil ever for my WRX....however my Z06 loved it. Its not a bad oil.....its just not very good for turbo Subaru's. |

Running the simple castrol gtx 10w-30 regular right now. It's been good so far for about 500 miles.

Whether it is a subaru turbo or NA engine, oil is definitely one of the top priorities but most people don't know jack about jack.... so they are SOL To the one guy in here who thinks his mechanic is top notch needs to rethink that....If people don't know the "real" info then anything that is said sounds good enough or "great", they go on not knowing the right info and in the process keep getting screwed over right Scotty?? |
