Now that I've installed a Wheelskin leather wrap on my steering wheel (the groove molded into the plastic wheel **really** bothered me), a Subaru leather shift knob, and a Pioneer head unit with satellite radio receiver, I'm really liking the car a lot.
Same here, build date 4/12 arrived end of May/early June.

In the seat squeak, I was at the dealer today getting the bushings for the squeak and I saw they had another set set aside for someone's 2012 wrx... Maybe they should rethink their design

Of course it is all subjective, but I agree. I really liked my bug eye. I like what they did with the new ones. The ones in the middle, not so much. But hey, the world would be a pretty dull place if we all liked the same thing.

On another note,I did a road trip today from Northeast Ohio down to Columbus and back. I made a few discoveries. First, the speedo on my car is right on with the GPS. The odo is a little pesimistic. Over 303.2 GPS miles, the odo registered 298.7. Anyway, the other point of interest is that going down, I stuck the cruise at 5 over, running 70 most of the way. The tach is about 2200 rpm. Dash mileage going down showed 35.4 avg. mpg. Coming home, I set the cruise at 65 running the motor at 2000 rpm. That seems to be a magic number as the reading continued to climb all the way home. Upon hitting the gas station, I had 37.8 mpg average. Since I had a few miles on the tank prior to departing, I used the actual distance on the tank and came up with 36.43 mpg. That was 322.3 actual miles using 8.845 gallons. I guess I should have gone 65 on the way down too. These readings were on the trip B, (the 35.4 and 37.8) which were a direct comparison to the GPS. Trip A was when I refueled the other day. Once I figured out the discrepency on the odo, I used that percentage to calculate the actual mileage on the tank, which is where the 36.43 came from. I can say however that the estimate the dash is displaying is pretty accurate for my particular car when I compare it to GPS numbers.

It would appear that keeping the rpm @ 2 grand will take you farther than running it higher. To go 5 mph faster would have only shortened the trip by 15 minutes or so one way so no biggie there. Not to mention that our state police were working hard today giving out performance evaluations.

Another item I have noticed, which I had mentioned elsewhere, was that certain fuel gives me better results. The local BP is good for a 3 mpg reduction over a local Get Go. (Get Go is associsted with a grocery store.) I would have expected that to be the other way around. In any event, fuel blends can not only be different from region to region but even locally. (I know when I hit the Plains states on the motorcycle my mileage goes down the tubes with the corn gas.) Anyway, it might be worth experimenting locally to find what takes you the farthest.

Yeah, corn gas sucks! There isn't one single gas station in the entire state of MA that isn't E10. I really wish we had a choice because I would gladly pay a little more for pure gas. Its going to really suck when they get around to shoving e15 down our throats.

That drive me nuts! Probably because people are stupid and don't know the law. The other thing I see is someone blasting up to get past a truck only to get there and match the speed so both lanes are held up. Very aggravating!!!!! I do see it a lot on Ohio, but I also see it in many other states as well. Not just ohio plated vehicles. I have traveled all over this country on two wheels and there only a few places where the law is actively enforced. Where are the optional laser cannons when you need them.

When I was out in the Pacific Northwest this past summer on a three week motorcycle trip, (yeah we rode the whole way), I discovered signs posted along the roads. It is a state law, (can't recall Washingtin, Oregon, or both), that if you are holding up more than 5 cars, that you have to pull over to let them pass. For a motorcyclist on a twisty road that was heaven!

I have 16mpg on average in my center dash.

I admit it would have been horrible with any car. The main driver is not very fuel efficient, since I have been able to reach the EPA rating while driving it from point A to point B.

When the oil temperature is below 60 degree, the MPG is really bad since the idle engine speed is higher, once it get around 70 degree celsius the engine stick at 1.5k RPM at 30mph.

Canadian higher trim have oil temp.

Sad, really, and shows the corruption in our system. No matter what the reason of the moment, it boils down to two things - it raises food prices and the biggest joke of all - it takes more than one gallon of gasoline to make one gallon of ethanol.

I've lived near Ohio for years and never been able to figure that out. In Kentucky, people generally more or less get it. That isn't to say that Kentucky drivers are good, they aren't, but I swear that as soon as I cross the river the average skill of drivers drops massively. In Kentucky, I signal if I want to merge into a lane. In Ohio, the trick is to not signal, because if you do, everyone behind you will try to pass you while you try to merge. Its...kinda insane.

Try contending with that on two wheels. It then becomes real insane. Then there is the merge because the lane is closed ahead. The BOZOz will stay in that lane until they effectively cause the traffic to slow and back up. If they would just move over when the sign says so, everyone would keep moving at speed. (Do you get the idea that I'm not all that impressed with Ohio drivers either.)

Here near The Villages, we know the Ohio/Michigan tags on cars blocking up the left lane all too well

I've lived in the PNW for decades and not many pay attention to those signs. It's a free-for-all here like many other states.

While the discussion of different driving habits between different states' drivers are enlightening and often amusing, I'm afraid they don't really add to the topic on hand (issues with the Impreza between the two successive model years).

I'd appreciate it if the discussion could be returned to the topic on hand. Humble thanks from a fellow member.

One thing I noticed about my car earlier on was that as I was accelerating from a stop (or from < 10 km/hr) through the 20-40 km/hr range, there would be a sudden decrease of power, with revs dropping from 2500 RPM to about 1000 RPM. This would persist with slow acceleration through to 40 km/hr, and then power would pick up again.

I don't know if this was a "learned" thing by my car, or if it was what the on-board computer was programmed to tell the engine & CVT how to accelerate through that range.

I suspect it was a "learned" thing, because I think I've made it "un-learn" it by using the paddle shifters - when it happened, I blipped the left paddle to drop it into a lower gear; after a while of doing this, the engine stopped doing the power reduction move. In fact, it hasn't happened in the last 1000 or so km since I did that.

Not sure if anyone has come across the same issue. It might not be a model-year specific issue either; it might be strictly a CVT thing (which I'm assuming was not changed between model years).

there was some reprogramming down of the CVT that seems like it was only for 2012s (I never got a letter about it anyway).

I don't have things to complain about myself... Only one - the mpg, of course.

Oh, wait! Have you filled up the gas tank yet?

My XV does the same thing. Gonna have to try your little trick because it drives me nuts. Hmmm, does anybody know if there's a fuse pull fix or something to get the ecu to reset what it's "learned?" In my Dodge you pulled the # 2 fuse for 30 seconds and then when you restarted the car it was like a different animal.

I had a 2012 hatchback and totalled it at 3800 miles. I had zero issues with oil and had 38ish mpg once it was broken in (lots of freeway driving here in so cal).

I now have a 2013 hatchback, will probably hit 3000 mils after the upcoming weekend. Needless to say the cars are "young" but my 13 is having lots of jerkiness when idling and sort of what feels like bad gas was used on last fill-up. I had the dealer change the oil and few hundred miles after break-in and that is when the issue started. I am just over 32 mpg right now.

Not much else to report than that.

You are asking in a thread where the majority own 12/13 models if they find their car that they paid for is ugly?

Where's the logic in that?

Regardless of generation, I always think the hatchbacks look better than the sedans.

I think hatchbacks/wagons are more popular in Europe than here in the USA, and I never understood why. Hatchbacks are a more useful/flexible configuration, and (in my opinion) they look better too.

You should see the furniture/bikes/whatever I've been able to haul in my hatchback cars over the years.

I never liked hatches before getting into subarus. But now I like them alot.

I always felt that hatches are more sporty while sedans are more comfort/luxury

It would have been interesting to see a hatchback in the parking lot at work, next to the a4, 5-series, lacrosse, g35, camrys, accord, etc. ALL sedans.

A friend with a 2.0i sedan asked why I wanted the Sport Premium instead of a premium or limited sedan, I simply replied that my dog can't ride in a trunk.
