Wasn't saying that specifically towards your case :P Generalized statement is that people need to get quality tunes.
yep one of the reasons i didnt want to run OTS tunes, especially since i changed out the TMIC, BPV, etc for preventive measures. although i probably wouldve ran OTS tunes if those plastic parts werent a point of failure. ok maybe not, i wanted to maximize my gains with a protune... lol

UPDATE: It's been a little over a year since I started this thread and went stage 2. Car now has 13,000 miles on ODO (roughly 11,000 on stage 2) and has had no problems.

I've driven it pretty conservatively from day to day but it has seen 5 autocross events in the past year (no track days).

The main reason I started this thread was to find out the longevity of an engine on stage 2 power and I'm updating this post because I haven't had any problems after a year of stage 2 driving. We all know there are a lot of factors and variables that go into an engine's lifespan but I wanted to share my experience for anyone who was considering stage 2 as their next step.

Thanks to all who have contributed so far and here's to another problem free year!

Is going stage 2 really that much of a death sentence? Reading this forum makes me so nervous just to drive my car (although, I'm on a stage 1 map)

03 WRX - Running stage 2 since 100k, car now has 160k. Last 20k, I've been running a TD05-16G making close to 300WHP. Car is still running strong

Eh, its in the 2.5L forum but oh well.

from what i've read, but im just a noob...

ofter 07, yes...

if you have a 04-07, you are probably good but even the 07 i think is a little more risky...

from I've gathered, motor wise, 04-05 were the best for unknown reasons..

its hit or miss, find a good tuner and use a good oil. most stage 2 cars will put out 300whp, so it not that much power

2012 WRX 65,000 miles. Been stage 2 and adding on since 20K miles. No engine issues but the stock clutch went bye bye.

-Exedy racing clutch
-Invidia catted DP
-Invidia Q300 exhaust
-Process West TMIC
-AEM CAI
-GrimmSpeed 3 port EBC
-TurboSmart IWG actuator with 10PSI spring
-ID1000s
-DW 65s pump
-NKG 1 step colder plugs
-Zerolift composite TGV deletes
-Turbosmart Kompact BPV
-lots of other suspension and driveline related mods
-Tuned by BrenTuning of MA. several times
-Currently at 315whp and 370wtq on a Mustang Dyno

I am about to buy a built block with Cosworth pistons and forges rods. Adding a Blouch DOM3.0xt-r, Tomei equal length headers, and all necessary supporting mods for the oil system. I expect to be around 410-430whp when it's done. I will probably run a more conservative tune the majority of the time, say 380-390'ish, will the ability to flash an aggressive tune on demand.

There is some good info in this thread. I would also be curious to see updates from previous posters here and see if they are still going strong. I would hope a stock engine would run for over 200k before going pop just like the older 2.0l seem to be doing. Those seem very robust.

My 2011 lasted maybe 1k miles on stage 2. At first I just went with a cobb catted DP and a pro tune. Then to be "safe", I converted to an E85 tune with injectors, upgraded fuel pump and so on. After the E85 I cracked a ringland only a few days later. I was actually datalogging at the time, and I wasn't picking up any knock at all.
