![]() Maybe they mean going back like the 2004 STI with no speakers, radio, and option with no AC. I had a 2004 STI that had no speakers or radio but couldn't let go of the AC...

![]() no matter what happens, the SGP will add weight, the brz could not escape the weight gain either. how much weight it will gain may be canceled out but the gain in power. the possible lower center of gravity, and the global platform will help with steering and handling. but right now the engine and drivetrain are the wild cards here

![]() Bruh you ain't ever gettin' a CF driveshaft from Subaru from the factory. Especially on a car that is abused like the STI. First inclement weather or any road not crystal smooth, that CF driveshaft will be chunked.
I believe STI does make a CF driveshaft for the BRZ and some have installed it, only to have it break. I haven't read up on it in about 6 years or so. |

![]() The only way the STI looses significant weight over the outgoing model is if it shrinks to a smaller vehicle class. At this point the loaded/limited model may very well approach 4,000lbs, and at that point it doesn't matter how much horsepower it has, that's a lot of weight to haul around.

4000lbs, no thank you. I'd rather pick up a CTR if that was going to happen. It's not like the STI has characteristics of a RWD car. |

![]() I have no clue why you'd think the STI would approach 4k lbs fully loaded. It's not even close to that now. The STI has done a damn fine job of keeping weight down while adding safety and upgrading tech. Plus wheels have grown.

![]() subaru will not carbon fiber everything. it would raise the cost of STI out of our comfort zone. the use of aluminum and high strength steel should add rigidity will keeping the weight gain at a minimum. if they can update the STI and there is only an addition of 100-150lbs then that is huge progress. 18in wheels would be lighter than the current 19in and be a much better ride. and wouldn't a 2-door STI be lighter than a sedan or hatchback. the cheaper brz can be an introductory model to the subaru sports cars. toyota has the supra and will soon have the gr86. we can have the brz and 2 door STI coupe

![]() A 2 door would not necessarily be lighter if it's a converted 4-door WRX. The now defunct 2-door Civic weighed the same as the 4-door sedan.

I don't think the VA replacement has any shot at being lighter than the VA, but I doubt it will grow by more than a couple hundred pounds. 3500-3600lbs is likely. It will still be a decent bit quicker if it really gets another 70+hp. |

![]() There's no question it's going to have a much broader power band with the FA24 variant. We all know the EJ is ancient (and so does Subaru).

![]() I mentioned it before, but it’s funny that Subaru spent all the time and money developing a CVT, only to take what makes a CVT great IMO, and make it perform like a normal transmission.

![]() Except it doesn't. The fake shifts are still variable. The ratios are still variable. The transmission can do what it needs to do based on the variable inputs.

My opinion is that the simulated shifts just mimic an extremely smooth AT but kinda defeats the purpose. CVTs are better in lower powered lighter daily drivers but less so in high powered heavier vehicles. It's rumored the new Nissan Pathfinder is moving away from the CVT to a 9AT. |

![]() It's what 3500 lbs now. I would expect some minor weight gains going to a new chassis but I can't see it getting close to 4000 lbs unless they added a motor.

![]() are any of our fellow photoshoppers able to make a mock up STI using the photo. also if the torque is good enough, then the supposed 288hp may be ok, but of course I could be higher like what they thought the brz was supposed to be
