I'm really intrigued by your x-brace. i think it could definitely contribute to the rigidity and possibly rear suspension performance. how tightly did you bind it? how did you do it in general? we dont have the CAD CAM machines to run the scenario but the logic seems solid. suspension bridges support massive loads via tension, after all.

I wouldn't call leaning your handheld GPS in your dash cluster a mod of any kind.

There's a thread somewhere where they soldered wires to the pins where the buttons are and connected them to a momentary push button so you could mount it anywhere.

More gold then your local jewelry store.
I have to get some pictures of a few other things, I spent about 15 hours wet sanding and polishing bare aluminium fuel rails, and a sheet metal intake manifold on the brother in laws 427sb looks tittys now with billet cnc heads and valve covers! I'm trying to figure out how to tackle doing the blower, charge piping and awic next. I spend a lot more time on that car then I do my own especially when it comes to custom modifications. Everything is one off custom made. even our injectors are billet adonized and polished Last edited by noside; 05-02-2012 at 08:14 AM. |

1) Remove visor (a couple phillips head screws) 2) Remove mirror and cover from visor. The mirror is held in by the frame, which just snaps into place using plastic tabs that go under a metal piece in the visor 3) Start trimming. The hole left by the removal of the mirror and frame was about perfect for my GPS, but others may vary. Beneath where the mirror and frame used to be is metal and foam. I used a dremel to trim cut a square out of the metal, then a knife to cut out some of the foam. This leaves you with a thin section of foam and the fabric for the other side of the visor, which is thin enough to hear the speakers through. 4) Test fit, trim, test fit, repeat 5) Once you are satisfied with the results of step 4, clean up any obvious ugly edges with a needle and thread. As you can see from my pic, the spot where the antenna goes under the fabric was sort of rough, so using my 5th grade sewing class whip-stitch skills, I sewed it up a bit to make it look a little cleaner. 6) Now route your power cord through the visor. I cut a small notch in the stitching near the rod at the top left of the visor, where it attaches to the roof. Then I fed the power cord through there and cut another small notch into the remaining metal in the visor near the right side of the GPS. This small notch was used to hold the tip of the power cord in place with a pressure fit. My power cord came with small plastic ridges on it near the tip, which also helped when pressing it into the notch. 7) I kept the bottom part of the mirror frame in place for additional support for the GPS and to hide the lower exposed edge. Just trim it with a dremel, cut new notches for the tabs in the visor's metal (may not be necessary depending on your GPS), and push it back into place. 8) At this point you're ready to stick the GPS in. I decided to add some velcro for additional security in the visor. Two pieces of velcro stuck to the back of the GPS mate up with two pieces stuck to the foam behind the GPS in the visor. 9) Clean up the cut from where the power cord enters the visor. Again, I just did some whip-stitching that closed the cut as well as held the cord in place. 10) Remount the visor 11) Route the power cord. For this I ran mine behind the A-pillar and down to a new fuse under the dash. |

I can't find the thread at the moment, but I did see one where the guy removed the case and got it mounted under his shift boot. Only he knew the location of the button, and it was out of the way.

I really like this. I wanted a grille for my FMIC and I ended up just using some painted masonry mesh formed around the edges at the back of the opening, then epoxied in place. But I like your solution with the black trim around the mesh much better. Can you give any more details about it? How did you mount the grille to the bumper?

Haha, I was going to do my RCA's on the bottom too.... When I went to drill the hole, I drill the aux (was going to be top left and usb to the right of that) too big (didnt measure the bit just eye-balled it) so I had to change the game plan. Still works out nicely, though I'll probably never use the RCA. I just wanted to have a nice flush look instead of wires sticking out somewhere.
