it primarily helps with rough-road vibration and reduced the jolt when hitting any big bumps. previously it was metal on metal -- a bad combo for refinement. it was fine and felt tight and good during cornering, but it made bump-steer and potholes really crashy it's what's known as a "rubber-isolated subframe" =] Last edited by burkart; 05-14-2012 at 06:32 PM. |

This thread was on the fourth page. NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Swapping my oil temp gauge over to trans temp, I decided to go with a 45mm oil pressure gauge which is a lot more practical for actually monitoring the car. I'm sure I will regret doing this when I need more space on the switchboard, but for now it works ok! Still need to find space for the UEGO though.. Yes there is a monsterous crack in my windshield |

Switches are for fogs and abs, later on ill be setting up an ic sprayer and possibly a kill switch although that really needs to be outside of the car. |

This thread went from showing what you can do and what kind of fun little ideas people have to straight criticism and rude remarks.

Still a work in progress, but its coming along. I am running it like it is for a little while to "test" it and make sure that its not distracting or any way limiting the visibility before I finish it up.
As good of a perspective shot as I could get. The highest point is just slightly over the hoodscoop so there doesn't seem to be much (if any) loss of visibility so far.. but we will see. |

Where I sit, so far it hasn't seemed to make any difference on my field of view. The last picture is as good of a perspective shot as I could, but you can see that it barely sits any higher than the factory hood scoop... so nothing is really lost.

wow that is some impressive handiwork.
i was going to ask about that finish.... then realized thats the fiberglass you did yourself!!! thats beyond my skillset. i think the top gauges are alittle overkill, but thats my 2 cents only. bc you're crazy about gauges, how about a passenger speedometer like in the 458 Fiorano? theirs is in the dash right by gloevbox |

Thanks! I would have liked to minimize the gauges a bit, but there are certain things I want quick and easy access to... and there are 5 of them... lol (Boost, AFR, Aquamist, Oil Pressure, Oil temperature). So minimizing wasn't quite an option because 5 would have looked very odd. So I ended up going with the full 6. They will all be useful to keeping as close of an eye as I can on my engine parameters. I am thinking I will go with either fuel pressure or EGT for the 6th. Not quite sure just yet.
As far as the fiberglassing goes, this was my first real project. I did a little work with making a shop display a few years ago, but I had no idea what I was doing and it came out rough. This time I took my time and it really was a lot easier than you would think. If you can turn a wrench, you can probably fiberglass. The key is to make sure you give yourself lots of time and use minimal hardener. This will give you more working time before the resin will start to set and allows you to work with it a lot easier. The downside is that it takes longer to cure. For me, I specifically bought a used dash assembly so I had something to use for fitment without having to use my actual dash. Well worth the $20 I spent on the dash! |

Well he very well could be correct.. I really don't know. From my view, I have no visibility loss... but that does not necessarily mean that it is legal. That is one of the reasons I am planning on running it like it is... to see if I have any issues with legality before finishing it. I am a very responsible driver (only ever got 2 tickets since I was 16 and one was because I took a right on red before coming to a complete stop in order to avoid being rear-ended). If I really thought there was any safety issue, I would find a different solution. Maybe for someone shorter than I (even though I'm pretty damn short myself) it would limit visibility, but for me it does not. Only time will tell though.

There is a legal limit to the aloud obstruction in your front windshield. If your truly worried about it, go to any Inspection Garage and ask them to look it up.

Everything I can find about NYS only regulates what is physically attached to the windshield. So it would be a tough call legal wise. Either way, I still feel completely confident in the safety of it in regards to blocking my view.
