I don't know how that came to be. It's gonna be interesting how the WRX and specially the STI, end up looking with this cladding
Mind blown. This is definitely a US thing as this doesn't happen in Canada. I'm surprised so many people would want to put lift kits on car platforms.

Subaru owners have been doing that FOREVER though. Long before even the first Legacy Outback. BRATs, GLs, DLs. I do believe that group was partly the reason for lifting the Legacy wagon. Subaru saw their customers doing things to go "farther".

I’m on my second Forester. First one was a 12’ 5 speed and I just put off-road tires and went to hell and back with it. This one, Covid happened and I was bored lol I put a lift kit, skid plate, off-road tires and Sparco wheels. Taken it many times off-road. It does better. Clearance is appreciated in mountain roads and in snow for not getting beached.

Us WRX guys are melting down over this. NASIOC. Reddit. Everywhere.

A lot of people are in stage 3 ("bargaining") of the 5 stages of grief, hoping the cladding is either specifically for a Wilderness trim for WRXes, or that it will infect the WRX but not the STI.

Stage 5 ("acceptance") will be people buying entirely black cars, LOL.

I had a bright blue 2008 Mini Cooper S with huge black fenders. I had them painted body color to match. Wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Overlanding tents. So hot right now, even Subaru is beefing up the roof to accommodate them.

Camping in a cloth tent on your car sucks. The sooner people realize those things are nothing more than IG influencer bait and aren't actually any fun to live with, the sooner we can all move past them and start laughing at them going for a 99.9% discount on FB Marketplace. Who wants to go camping and then be unable to go exploring without breaking down your camp? Other folks go and drop off their travel trailer and claim a spot early in the day and then head out to do things away from camp. Not you. You arrive late to the least desirable spot left, hope it's somewhat level, set up the tent and inflate your air mattresses in the dark, crawl up a ladder and enjoy being rocked to sleep by the squishy OEM KYBs.

I notice Subaru isn't bragging about this thing's payload capacity. The Wilderness is going to be the heaviest Forester so far, and last year's heaviest one only had a payload of 1300lbs. Sure, that sounds like a lot until you realize how much your camping gear, clothes, water, outdoor toys, pets, and bodies weigh.

Anyway, now it's a drizzly morning and you've got no place to sit and chill because although you afforded the space & weight for your camp chairs, you didn't have time to set up a tarp the night before. You get that set up and start heating some water and breakfast over a little backpacking stove on the ground, while you look for something to act as a windbreak. You could be doing this in the vestibule of a ground tent, but not in any tents that fit on top of a Forester. Now you've got your breakfast coffee consumed and.. well.. let's pack up everything and go see/do something.

I've heard a lot of folks with RTTs carry a ground tent just to claim their spots during summer weekends. That makes sense.

Interesting. If there were any cars at any dealerships I’d go check out this Startex stuff..

https://www.planetsubaru.com/what-is-subaru-startex.htm

I wonder if that’ll replace leather altogether in the lineup at some point?

That’s a tall order. Leather is.. leather.

I'm no leather connoisseur; but, Startex feels real nice and is SOO much more durable than leather. I'd take it any day over leather.

I like the Tex stuff for the family rig. Perfect material. Leather is nice in the GTI but I definitely worry about it.

Durability is the biggest concern.

In a car like a a new BMW M2C, there is simply NOTHING like BMW's noxious/wonderful factory leather. My 135i still had that brand new smell after 3.5 years when I sold it.

The problem isn't the tent itself, but that people who shouldn't buy one, do.

I've been overlanding with a buddy in Colorado, and they work perfectly for him. Usually multiple day trips where we set up camp late at night, pack up early in the AM, and go wheelin for the day. Finally get to our destination, usually a lake, and stay for a few days, then head home, setting up camp occasionally.

Traditional car-campers who plop down in one site and go explore... no, they make absolutely no sense for those people. I think that describes 99.9% of the people who will buy a forester wilderness...

I'd argue that some people make camp and then explore by hiking with a day pack, or fish, or really just sleep outside. There are places where you don't need to drive anywhere to explore the wilderness (no pun intended). I know a couple that does the exact thing and have a roof tent on their Grand Cherokee. They are extremely happy with it.

Different plans/designs for different people. Some prefer the hatch tents. It depends on the type of camping you want to do.

Back to the Forester Wilderness, I think the price of $33k is a lot. The Outback at $37k which seems like a better deal with the turbo, little more towing and cargo capacity.

I meant to come in here last night after I saw the price of the Forester Wilderness and state that the asking price is absolutely ridiculous. I'd expect that price for an XT Wilderness, but not with the same base engine, regardless of transmission tuning.

I still think the Wilderness is a huge miss for Subaru. The Outback Wilderness is pretty awesome, though, and priced accordingly.

Exactly. The turbo and the extra power/torque is one thing; but, more importantly, HTCVT > LCVT if you have to have a CVT and plan to stress the hardware, even moderately.
Also, 3000 lbs towing on the LCVT? Really? The older 4EAT/5EAT transaxles were better for these kinds of workloads, IMO.

Subarus and dogs right? When Startex first showed up, several customers with large dogs came in(not necessarily for Startex) and threw their dogs with big claws in the back seat for the test drives. Not a SINGLE mark on the Startex. We were all sold after that.

3000lbs for a FORESTER. That's the most it's EVER had.

I'm just saying I don't think the LCVT can take it. But, owners are welcome to try .

Where are our Aussie friends in here? IIRC, they never lowered the Forester's towing when it went to the LCVT over there. It was all about the cooling. This is a beefed up trans only adding 600lbs to that "old" tow rating. Or had it changed across the big pond?

A Japanese guy on twitter (famous fat having a ridiculous Subaru collection - https://twitter.com/BOXER_GrA_GC8) just posted that he just signed for a STI Forester. I asked him if it was a new STI model or a regular Forester with STI parts and he just answered: It's not a regular Forester.

That’s probably it.

But man…if Subaru was to make a Forester STI like the SG9…wowzers, literally everything would be forgiven even on this site.
