Thumbs up STi Tanny Mount

I just had an STi tranny mount installed on my MY00 RS last weekend at Subaru Lachute. Took em 1/2hr to install.

I gotta say, I like it so far! It reduces alot of drivetrain movements. When shifting, for instance, you dont feel the whole drivetrain clunk around and flex, it's just SOLID! Even when you floor the gas, the engine doesnt pause like it used to, it jsut hooks up! Even when you start the car, the drivetrain seems to rock around less than before. Its hard to explain, but it just feels rock solid now, you feel whats happening with the engine and tranny.

On the other hand, it is quite noisy. You will HEAR gear whine all the time. Personally, I think its kinda cool, but if you dont have a loud stereo (or a loud engine) it can get a little annoying. On the highway, road noise takes over, so you wont notice it. It also vibrates the car a bit as well, but nothing crazy.

IMHO, I find this peice good enough, instead of the engine/tranny mount combo. If I were to install the engine mounts too, I think it would add to much NVH and wouldnt be great for a daily driver. I think that JUST the tranny mount is an excellent cpmprimise.

Did you notice some more low-end torque? I'm still trying to figure out whether my taller hood scoop or the tranny mount (installed at the same day) gave me the good-feeling-low-end torque that wasn't there before ...

That rumble is VERY nice ....

Question

How would a simple tranny mount add more low-end torque? I think it possible creates the feeling of torque, because when youre driving at low speeds/low rpms and pressthe gas, it reacts instantly, theres no hesitation as the engine/tranny move around.

That was sarcasm. The tranny mount is good for nothing but noise on the RS. That's why he posted that.

Unhappy oh......

....well, I hope thats not true!

Yeah, it does add noise, but it makes the drivetrain stiffer feeling.

Now I feel like I wasted my money! THANKS!!!! I've heard good things about this part on the boards.......what happened???

It does add to the noise level. On the upside my drivetrain has stopped dancing around.

Sorry, it does do SOMETHING. It makes the driveline connection more rigid. What does that do for performance? Nothing. It might be necessary if your pumping 300hp through the trans, but for an RS all it really does is make your interior louder.

Oh, well, ya, obviously is does nothing for performance. I never said it made my car go faster or anything. It DOES make the car feel better and more soild now, thats for sure. Noise, YES, its there, no doubt about it! Oh well....

Put ES motor mounts in my 93 Sentra SE-R a bit before I sold the car. A lot more rumble at idle, but also felt so much more solid. Very worth the cost.

Looking forward to STi mounts for my 2.5TS hotrod.
