I'd prefer to go 64 than north...if not I can just meet you guys at the exxon at 33 and 29. No point in driving to pvcc than back to my house

I just figure once we get on skyline drive our speed is going to drop to 45 or so. If we drive up and jump on at 33 I think we will have a better chance of meeting up with the other drives coming south. We could then potentially merge in with them and take skyline back south all the way to waynesboro/64 and come back to Cville that way.
Just an idea!

It cost anything to get on Skyline this time of year?

Edit: Cliff's notes: if you are meeting us at PVCC lower lot, be there before 10am. If you are meeting us at the exxon in rutgersville, be there before 10:30.

So let's leave from PVCC lower lot at 10. Try and be there by 9:45 so we can leave at 10. Then we can head up 29 to where 29 intersects 33 in ruckersville. We can meet other people at the exxon there at 10:30 and fuel up grab snacks or whatever, then head via 33 to skyline drive.

Sound like a plan?

Speed limit on the drive is 45 mph max, and I predict we'll be going a lot slower than that.

Cloud cover was high enough that I just got to see the blue ridge mtns on my trip from Cville to Chicago. Blows the skyline experience out of the water! The low lying clouds coming over the mtns looked epic.

It's also cool to see the change of leaves from a plane this time of year, especially at sunset.

Once the leaves start changing Skyline is too slow and dangerous- rubbernecking RV drivers FTL.

Yeah thats why I was pushing to go 64 then north, so If I had to break off I would already be heading the right direction. Its no biggie, I'm sure we will have more drives!

I'd like to point out that Boogalo's original route suggestion south towards wintergreen costs nothing to go on that portion of the Skyline drive, whereas the section north of I-64 costs $10-15.

also...front royal is a long goddamn way...

I think the plan was from RT 33 down to the Afton exit at I-64, (or vice-versa) not Front Royal. We'd be all day if we did that.

Hmm...better...but still $10 more than Boog's suggestion. I used this route all the time for motorcycle rides, all through the mountains, lots of changing elevations, really nice.

I also second boogs route idea seems sufficient unless somebody else has an idea. Plus would be good to have a route laid out prior to just winging it in the am.

i think the main point of taking skyline was so they can meet up with the other groups that will be out.

Guess I'll check this tomorrow morning to see if the route changes and I think I can pull it off . If so I just washed and waxed the car for photos!
