We have sevral subaru distribtors, and not one of them has a higher grade oil for the tranny's that is recommended by subaru. HOWEVER, many of them have relations with various aftermarket suppliers and may have found BRAND X works better for their clients and they have less issues, or whatever the reason may be.
As for temps .. I think that 400 is pulled out of thin air ... we have never seen that high. It gets darn hot, but not 400 F ... we often install a billet center plate with high flow cooling passages for an external transmission cooler. Works really well. I will get a picture out on Monday and post it up. -mark

Regardless it would be a huge help for sales (even though it's expensive) if it was available from Subaru in quart, or at least gallon jugs. It's not easily accessible to the consumer considering it only comes in 5 gallon jugs for $150+, and the majority of the parts guys don't even know it exists. Hell, they'll actually deny it exists until you provide a part #, then they'll say they can't order it once they do find it (these know-it-alls can be stubborn). This was my experience with the 4 local dealerships a couple years ago. |

Gear 300 here. We use it in all of our cars and really like it. Holds up well to endurance racing. So well that we didn't rebuild the trans after the 25 hours of Thunderhill and it's still going strong this season.
