What did you do with the stock oil pressure sender? Do you have to put it in a different plug or do you get no lights when you disconnect it from the harness?

What (if any) additional hardware did you require outside of what came with the cluster/gauges?
Great write-up! |

The stock oil sending plug is a signal wire only (I believe) so it just sits there now. No CELS, no lights, nothing. It basically just wont do its job but it doesn't matter cause it cant now, lol.
Other than large and small zipties, I bought the 25 or 30mm (length) 4mm (width) bolt and nuts/screws. That was to mount the sending unit to the hoseclamp. Of course there are the fusetaps (3) and they require 3 amp fuses. There are two kinds I have seen, one without fuses for $8 and then one with multiple fuses for $11. I bought the pricey ones cause fuses are good. I did so much research that it basically made me mad. Apparently you cannot get them to stop flickering and they will not stay on during startup unless you hardwire them and they will be on all the time. I like the way they flicker and double sweep. Makes it look cool IMO. |

yep the stock pressure sensor is there to detect when the oil pressure is too low. other than that it doesnt do anything.

Very clean install! I actually ran the tubing and wiring through the firewall behind the TMIC. I also have MY07, so there is a convenient grommet right there by the brake booster.

Anyone else notice the right side (when looking at the dash) gauge is not symmetrical? I saw this during the install and it is driving me nuts. I looked all over for a reason while installing but could find nothing as to why?
Look at the left gauge and how close it is to the base and then look at the right side?!?!?! |

Jinkies! That would drive me bonkers. It looks exactly the same on their web gallery.
I'm wondering if there's something in the way behind that part of the hood? I'd call SMY and ask what's up. I want one of these, but damnit I want it symmetrical! Also, someone pointed this out to me and I need to share. If you want more than just two gauges, this seems like a pretty spiffy solution for the 08+ cars: http://www.fastwrx.com/widugapod20w.html Just have to run some long wires, and probably a tricky spot for a mechanical gauge. |

jinkies, lol. Never heard than one.
Nice option for the other pod. I have not seen that one either. Yup, the symmetry is something that I noticed and has since bothered me. What can you do? I'll bet SMY has a reason. |

it was pointed out in another thread that the assymetry is intentional, as the left gauge would block too much of the temp. gauge if it was at the same level as the right one. (or something like this). If you browse the original thread for the cluster when it was going through concept you would see the incredible thought and care that was put into designing and manufacturing this piece--I can assure you that the different level pods was not a mistake.

The stock sensor is completely removed and all that is left is the pigtail connector. Move it an inch back and to the left and it will never bother you. Nothing really to flop around.

OCD, this was very nicely done. I have an A pod pillar in my 09 WRX but one thing that's driving me up a wall is only my oil pressure gauge is flickering during the closing ceremony. My other defi boost and defi oil temp gauge isnt doing it when I shut my car off. And to make matters worse, the needles stays where it's at when I shut my car off instead of going back to zero. Oil pressure gauge is the only one closing out flawlessly and they're all defis.

Would love to order an SMY setup ... if only Defi made a gauge with a white needle to match. I have a little while to wait being that I plan to get an AP first. Hopefully in the meantime they come out with one
I think I'll try and contact Defi to see if they do have any plans for a white needle. Awesome writeup by the way |

Guys for those who think my cluster is not symmetrical I would like to chime in.
The cluster design had so much time invested to keep from blocking as much as the OEM gauges as possible. The gauges are not at the same level. Also designed that way, cost me $1500 in design to find that out that that the temp gauge was being blocked to much for my liking by leaving the two pods at the same height. So I dropped the left one down just a tad. Everything in this design had to be able to be drawn out of the mold without causing scratches to the texture when removed from the mold. Symmetry is as perfect as it could get. The texture was applied to the mold by the same company Subaru uses for their textured surfaces here in the USA. For everyone who purchased the cluster thank you and I do appreciate all the nice things you have said. If you have any other questions or problems please email me anytime [email protected] or call me 9174176454 (thats my mobile #) I always have time to answer your questions. I stick by my product 100% |

I have no doubt that a lot of time and consideration was put into that cluster. I do appreciate the explanation, though! Knowing why it's made that way makes a big difference. My earlier post was me shouting just to shout. Pay no mind, though I am a big stickler for symmetry (probably won't even notice once installed).
Big bummer on the new cars, nowhere to put anything. The GDs have that great clock pod location and switch blanks all over the damn place. This is definitely on my list of future parts. |

Man, that looks like crap. Had you just waited an hour, I could have helped you and got it done correctly. j/k. It looks sweet bro. Sorry i couldn't stay to the end, but you did finish it out nicely. I wish i could have taken a pic of you crying when you pulled off the fender liner. That was AWESOME!!!
