OT: Memorial to my Best Friend.
Some of you know me and have met my dear friend Dryden. He was diagnosed with a tumour in his spinal canal 2 months ago which had hindered his movement considerably and progressively. Yesterday during surgery, the Neurosurgeon contacted us and let us know that despite his best efforts, the nerve sheath tumor in Dryden's spine was inoperable. After a discussion with the vet and much soul searching, I decided that it would be in his best interest to end his pain as the prognosis was not good for his surviving the summer. Dryden and I met a number of good people on this board and that is why I am posting this. –Rick

I remember the first time I met Rick, the first thing I noticed was the rather obvious dog guard in his WRX wagon. I remember thinking how the Subie community used to be filled with outdoorsish, dog-lovin', down-to-earth and interesting folks. And I'm not even much of a dog person, but both Rick and Dryden turned out to be uber-cool. And they both like slow-cooked meat. A lot.
I guess both Rick and Dryden can now rest peacefully now knowing that everything possible was done to try to help him. It's tough losing a really good friend ... |

Hi Rick -- Sincere condolences from me and Eva.
Eva and I were just talking last night about how her friend who visits the SPCA cries everytime she goes to the room where unadopted stray dogs must be put down -- the dogs somehow "know" when it's time for one of their poundmates to go -- all barking subsides and the dogs become "quiet". You made a courageous decision. RIP Dryden. |

Very sorry to hear this. I have a 6 1/2 years old puppy (and 130lbs) and I can't imagine what life would be like without him.

I had to put my dog down once, it was such a terrible experience that I swore I'd never get a dog ever again. A couple of years later my mom came home with a puppy. I was mad; I told her I didn't want anything to do with that dog and I want it out of the house. She kept it and as time went by I couldn't resist the cute little thing. I named it Chico and he is now five-and-a-half years old. The sad part is, I love Chico more than any other dog I've had in the past... He is a medium-sized dog and I know he would be lucky to live past 12 years old. I dread that day. I wish dogs lived longer than humans so we'd never have to see the end of such innocent animal. Dogs are amazing creatures and I'm truly sorry for your loss... Hope you get well soon though it takes time.
