Default So I test drove the 09 WRX...

A few days ago I was able to take the new 09 out, here are my opinions if anyone cares. Now given I have not driven the 08 but I can tell you how it compares the the last generation wrx's/sti's.

1) Handling: Good. The handling on these is good but I noticed quite a bit of body roll. This is probably due to the increased size of the car itself but I still felt like I was in control at all times. The steering is now of that "new age feel". I don't know I like it or not. I assume they were trying to give it a smoother feel which is certainly how a does feel but to me it doesn't feel like I have complete control to the pavement.

2) Comfort/interior: Wow. I didn't know a sporty car in this price range could feel this good. Like I said before the steering is very smooth and the suspension setup will make you want to cruise the town all day long. The seats are very comfy and are very wide set, good for bigger guys yet still enough side support for skinnies like me. Also the seats are BADASS. They look almost identical to the STi seats and you can get the stitching to match the car. (I drove the new red color and the stitching looked amazing). Shifter is nice and smooth. Once again I am used to my aggressive cog shifting of my STi but a change to a shifter like this would be nice....maybe. Clutch was extremely smooth compared to my buddies bugeye and 06. Once again this will take some getting used to as all cars these days are getting"smoother" in all aspects.

3)Speed. HOLY ****. This thing is fast people. Now the 0-60 in 4.8 (like some magazines call) is bull**** but its def darn close. I was very surprised by the in acceleration of this vehicle. Getting onto onramps in this thing was a blast. It was odd because in an STi the power is very sudden/neck breaking rush while in this its a nice smooth back plant type rush. This is prolly also due to the one less gear. Even with all this power I did not break traction once. Now given that I did not launch it but I was surprised by this even in some corners.

Overall I think the new WRX is a blast and would make an AMAZING daily driver. Just don't buy a fully loaded one! The one I drove with the SPT package ran 28,900!! For 26,000 This would be a great sporty little car with some nice creature comforts.

Hope Texas crew is doing good!

It's an option for me to drop my buy eye for this, but if i want to be a cheapo i'll just get an 07 sti or a 06-07 tr, and drop a big turbo in it. but this makes the 09 promising to me.

I go to school in Colorado, and I test drove it here in co. That just means it should be faster down there at sea level!

I was just over at Gillman Subaru SW earlier this morning, nice little dealership (it was my first time there). New parts counter guy was nice (but a n00b, did not know what NASIOC was haha), David & Floyd were very good at helping me out at the Service department.

When I was done spending money over there, I went to the Sales dept for a brochure for the '09 WRX, and asked the guy if they had any on the lot.

"Uh, I'm not sure. I don't know".

He didn't really seem interested in showing me one, though I talked about racing one with the SCCA this year and I really wanted to at least sit in one before I autocross it next year. No dice. A little disappointed.

Drove home with my parts (hurray!) but didn't get to even look at an '09 at the lot. Bummer.

Wally is a nice guy, but the salesmen I've met at Gillman SW (Mitsu and Subaru) have all been typical sales scum.

Yessir. The Rabbit doesn't perform as well as it should considering the not-so-impressive fuel economy it offers. So hopefully I'll be in the 09 WRX in a few months. If I'm going to get poor gas mileage I'd rather have fun while doing it.
