Hey yall,

I saw the first flakes coming down yesterday, so I flew out the door to grab some shots. The entirety of this shoot took about 10 minutes and was entirely unplanned. And I know that is reflected in the locations/composition etc

I'm going for a proper shoot today though, going to spend about 3 hours out.

And the editing is done! Phew!

A buddy and I went to shoot his GTI and I grabbed a few of my FozXT as well.

Spent two or three hours at three locations, and then about 4 hours editing. It was a blast, and I actually got some shots that I was pretty happy with. Here's "a few" of them.

Please critique. I want to actually get good. I did have a few shots where when I was in LR afterwards I had the thought of, "If I had just angled the cars X amount..."

Now wish I had thought that when I was shooting

And finally, yes. I need a CPL!

so my buddy wanted to get a quick shot of his new Z06, but i JUST sent off my B800 to KEH and hadnt received my AD600 yest so all I had was my speed light and light wand. I was having issues with painting and ghosting myself in the shot so i switched to the speed light It was pretty tough figuring out a way to make it work like when I strobe. It's not up to my standards when I strobe but for a small sb700 hand held i think it worked out pretty well. The biggest issue is the light is so poinpointed compared to a strobe with 7" reflector

I wish that was not up to my standards

Seriously though, great pic as always. I've always liked that location; I remember you posting a pic or two there before.

@subie_pnw

There's too much vignette, the color is very dull but I'm guessing that's what you had to work with lighting and weather wise it make for kind of a boring look. CPL should be priority then eating food.

Yeah, winter rolled in pretty hard, and we were doing our best to work with the heavy overcast conditions. The one bright side was that it minimized extremely harsh shadows, but you're right, I struggled with the colors quite a bit. Especially shooting urban in the industrial area.

I'll retouch some and try to adjust the vignetting, and see if I can adjust the colors. Of course, garbage in, garbage out

I’d say there’s nothing really dynamic or interesting about them. They’re all just flat and boring IMO.

How do these look? These are several of the "slightly" more colorful ones. If you check my flickr you can see all of the ones that I edited, almost 200 of them, many near duplicates though.

Thoughts?

it's hard to make a grey car stand out. It needs to contrast with the background.

I would say this is the only interesting photo out of what you've posted (as a landscape/urban photo). The eye is drawn to the mountains, then the train, then all the phone lines, and theeeennnn the car.
As others have stated, your vignetting is way too strong. I would bump your shadows a bit as well.
But most importantly you need to work on your framing. Pay attention to the rule of 3rds. Keep on practicing, and keep the people out of your shots. Just another subject for you too worry about just to try and get the "lit hypebeast flex" photo look.

Keep practicing!

Are you speaking of mine? Only thing done is dropping yellow hues (as the building is off yellowish) and added a touch of blues in the shadows. To each there own though!
