from what i have been told the sti is a 35-65 rear bias split that is unadjustable. the sti does have an adjustable locking feature though that the wrx doesnt have

the wrx is 50-50 from what im told.

45-55 is such i small difference you wont notice it at all....

the DCCD adjust the lock on the center dif
from what i understand if it is unlocked or "loser" you get better traction but sacrifice the the horsepower getting to the wheels it slips more and transfers power to wheels that are getting good traction while it is locked well its locked and all four will spin at the same rate
thats my understanding of the system
the only thing dccd does is give you the option to do it manually instead of the car doing it

So basically in the unlocked setting it looks at the front and rear diffrentials and gives them different amounts of power where needed and if it is locked it's splitting it the same no matter what??

Now in the wrx is it allwase locked? Or unlocked?

Also does the sti have lsd front and rear and the wrx have open in both? Is that correct?

from what i know the center dif is the one either locking or unlocking and that is before power is shifted to the wheels so no matter what you do you will always get the 35-65 split power the dif just locks and unlocks
the wrx has open diffs
im not sure on the center diff on the wrx but if i was gunna guess and mind you this IS a GUESS id say the ecu has alittle bit of control of the center diff in the wrx

Wow great read! I'm going to read that a few times haha. I'm having a hard time understanding a lot of how the Subaru awd system works since I'm a Jeep guy we get 50:50 split front and rear with open diffs so my brain is having an issue imaging what's going on here. In a stock jeep if you put it in 4wd and lift both passenger side tires off the ground off the ground the Jeep won't move. Is that the same for the WRX? What about the STI?

I'd also like to add in a Jeep with it in 4wd if you lift both front or rear tires off the ground the jeep will still move forward. Is thiss the same for both wrx and sti?

yes, all wheel drive, as in all of the wheels drive the car. I don't know why this matters/what you plan on doing....but if it involves having 2 tires off the groud often you might want to stick with the jeep

I'm just asking in that manor so I have an idea of how the awd works with the wheels being in the air thats the least amount of traction possible. So your saying both wrx and sti have LSD in the front and/or rear axles correct?

omg come on man, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...php?p=15812529

read that. sti is true awd with diffs in front, read, and middle. wrx 02-07 i believe is an open fron dif, has a dif in the center and read. 08+ wrx is open front and rear dif, has a center dif. did this to reduce stress on the transmission.

4wd and awd are two different systems with different ways of achieving the same basic principal.
