Question question regarding automatic wrx...long island, ny

hi guys ...i'm new to the forum so please be nice to me. i am interested in a new wrx & have lots questions. the reason you have to be nice to me is b/c i can't drive a manual........lol. i know that the wrx has the automatic option so my question is.... does anyone know of any dealers on long island (new york) that has one with an automatic transmission that i can test drive? the closest dealer to me in wantagh blew me off & wasn't very nice. also if you had a great or a not so fantastic experience w/ a particular dealer on the island can you please let me know? any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you jeannie < --- soon to be zipping around in my wrx

there are so many subaru dealers on long island I am sure if you call around, you will find an automatic WRX

*IMHO* if you are going to get an automatic, you might as well go for a RS. There is nothing wrong driving an automatic (everyone has different needs/situation). I have another car in the house that is an auto (the primary family car). The RS is my commute car where I dont see typical NYC traffics

When I bought my 02 automatic RS from Gregoris Motors (Valley Stream), they had quite a few AUTO WRX on the lot. I was actually a little amused by it My sales experience was good but some other people on this forum has had bad things to say about them

jj... have you considered learning how to drive manual? Yeah, there is a learning curve and often times frustrating but give it a good month and you'll be zipping around without much if any problems. You'll also get the to feel the total exhilarating experience of driving a WRX.

Good luck!

sometimes a MT is not worth it, if you're in traffic a lot you'll most likely wish that you didn't get the stick....so if auto is a given, check out the RS, TS, and OBS.....automatic transmission and a WRX is not the best combination.....it's still better than an auto RS, but not by much (at least from my test-driving experience of both)......
plus, if the car's main job will be as a grocery getter/running errands type of thing, then you'll rarely go above 3K RPMs....and below 3K a WRX is worse than an RS/TS/OBS.....so you might want to save yourself $4-5,000, higher insurance premiums and higher gas prices and buy more of those groceries.......the choice is yours, this is just something to think about.

i'm sure there are auto wrx's around...

Go to metric on jericho turnpike in huntington. they are the best subaru dealership in the tri state area. everyone is cool there, service guys are awesome.

i know a guy with an auto wrx. he had it before i bought my 5mt. threw an exhaust on and it was pretty damn quick. don't let anyone tell you an atuo wrx is slighly quicker than an auto rs.
sure it will take longer to spool up but the peak power can't be compared.

don't get an auto. I lived in NYC and I still got the manual. Just be extra careful for the first few months. You will learned everything in no time!

Check out the RS- that is what I have in automatic and I really love it. Hubby has the manual WRX. I drove an automatic and it wasn't nearly as good as the RS

Just an opinion

jeannie seems kinda gitty and ish, like too girlie..., a cover up for a guy that can't drive stick maybe? either way guy/girl, get m/t if you're getting a wrx...and I think most dealerships have to order the AT's, or that was what was told to my friend.

if you plan on getting a auto...

i would suggest a

Forester XT w/ the current promotion...
from www.carsdirect.com for zip 10001

with auto $23,404

or

Legacy GT but they are going near MSRP

because what's better then a 2.5 RS
a 2.5 w/ a Turbo

Default It depends what you are going to do!

I have an 04 wagon and got auto because my wife did not want manual. Now if this was a car that I was racing somewhere I would have gotten manual, but instead it has a car seat for my kid and a stroller in the back. I think that auto is fine, this car flies and you barely touch the pedal. Sure you can't really launch off the line, but really how many times are you going to do that. I see so many WRX sedans and I have never seen one tear off the line because under normal daily driving you just don't do it. And at the top end on the highway its all the same, they can shift down a gear and jam it, but I have floored this thing and it hammers. Sure you might lose a race, but who cares. This car is plain fun and auto is easier for everyday driving no matter what anyone says. So many people have said "oh man you got the auto" - you know what, I could care less about those people because their the same people that got a manual to race but never do! Just decide will you ever race, if yes get manual.

Hey, Jeanne,

Let me tell you something, there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with owning an automatic. My very first car was a Chevy Z28 automatic, and a couple years later I had another Camaro pushing about 500hp at the wheels, and guess what - it was a B&M slapshift automatic! That goes to tell you, some of the crazy monster cars you hear roaring down the street may not be stick! There's nothing to be ashamed about having an automatic.

Although I now own an STI, I have a friend who recently bought an automatic WRX, and his brother has an automatic RS. I have driven both, and I can honestly tell you that I seriously don't know what some people are talking about saying that the auto RS is better than the auto WRX. If I had to make the choice between the both there would be no hesitation.

So go ahead and find yourself a WRX and enjoy it. As a matter of fact, test drive an RS also and you will see what a difference there is. You will be happy with your purchase!
