Default STI GT35 motor rebuild question. (AMS KIT and more)

Hello all. After my search for the perfect STI i found my 05 STI. I purchased it with a long list of mods and needed some experienced guidance.

the main mods to worry about are my
Garrett GT35 Turbo, Turbo XS rotated mount kit,
Turbo XS FMIC,
Turbo XS down and mid pipe,
DC sports cat back,
Koyo Radiator,
Zero Sports Thermostat,
TiTek 850 cc injectors,
Walbro fuel pump,
Perrin fuel rails and lines,
Perrin light weight crank shaft pulley,
JDM TGV deletes,
Custom oil cooler, braided lines, sandwich plate,
Cusco catch can,
Sun Auto Hyper voltage system GT & Hyper ground wire kit,
Cusco and Stant coolantcaps,
Whiteline anti-lift kit.

there is more suspension work done but not really relevant.

to the point. i'm looking at rebuilding the bottom end to hold a solid 500 HP.
i found the AMS rebuild kit

AMS EJ25 Advanced Engine Rebuild Kit - Automotosports, Inc.

Includes
JE Pistons + Upgraded JE Wrist Pins
Clevite Main and Rod Bearings
OEM Subaru Engine Gasket Kit
Manley H-Beam Rods
ARP 11mm EJ Head Studs

it states that the kit will support 600WHP
"Developed for power levels from stock to 600whp and a 8500rpm"
(not looking to rev that high)

My question is this.
What do i need to do to the head or other components to support this type of power?(keep in mind i'm looking at making 450-500 whp DD)
and any other mods that are needed for this motor to handle this.
springs, oil/water pump ext.

thanks for your help

even if you can point me to a forum with the info. thank you much

Stronger head studs for sure an cams since your build is pretty deep already, I'd go for cosworth 280s. Port an polished heads with titanium valves and springs for sure an retainers, local tuner shop should be able to do it, it'll cost you but with Tht build your gonna need reliable stuff to hold up on power, heads should take Tht over 475 maybe 500 depending on tune and how your timing gets placed

Good suggestions, if you are going this deep the heads really should get some treatment. Pnp with cams sounds like a good plan along with all the fixings, and do some ARP studs.

Who are you having tune the car?

Have you looked into smaller supporting mods to fill out your build?? Phenolic spacers, Boost control solenoid/MBC, and does that turbo XS have a header?

not sure on the control solenoid, but im pretty sure it does not have headers. and im looking into a place called garage tuning to do the work unless some one knows a better place. and im not looking to get in over my head in price. if i can stay at 400 450 and be safe with the bottom end build ill be happy for now.

have you looked into possible turbo switch i know the GT35 turbos are nice but i have also heard the FP red turbo is like having Chuck Noris kick your car in the backside all the way down the highway

The heads do not need to be rebuilt to hold more power, however you will need new stronger valvesprings to rev higher than 7500rpm. I would suggest doing cams at the same time as it won't take much more once it's all disassembled.

If you have any questions please let me know!

so do you think the GT35 is to big for those numbers?
the GT35 is fairly new and i dont see much reason for doping $1000+ for a new turbo to achieve the same thing.

That has nothing to do with the rev limit. IF you miss a gear the rev limit isn't going to do anything because the gear is physically forcing the motor to rev higher.

You could rev 7500-8000 if your motor is balanced and your valve train can handle it.

Bigger turbo needs more anyway to keep a better power band.

I understand were your coming from, I just always been around engine builder that more or less say if you spend your money right and build correct( in there eyes, qouting them) you dont need a crazy reving motor. When you have an 85 hundo or more reving motor alot of things can go wrong fast. I personally myself agree to an extent but it depends on the situation too. granted i grew up around to 67 camaros that never need to rev past 65 hundo to rip the road apart but granted they are a 396 v8 big block and a 350 v8 small block. I have also seen turbos out there that have a quicker spool time for a more mangable power band

ah yeah the twin scrolls are nice but will make you go broke after you have to install the custom set up. Like i said im not familar with your turbo to much but here is a few things to keep in mind
you dont wanna push your turbo to much to reach your #s try to keep it safe and conservitive. sometimes is better to over build and down tune a bit then it is to have an agressive tune.
also to i would work closely with the tuner that is going to be tuning your car they will know alot about there dyno and what you need to do to reach the target numbers you want
