Even an inch of snow on the track is enough to build the berms up from what they were earlier today.

Three clubs are counting on using that track tomorrow. Why in the world would you destroy the berms?

well…please keep us updated folks.

I was planning on being there in the morning to race. I'll check for status in the morning before heading out.

Yes, the race is on tomorrow.

If there isn't enough snow for berms, I have a backup plan.

Oh good grief, I didn't destroy them, I was trying to point out that there wasn't much there. I drove all the way out to wasilla to see if I could check out the track and get a few laps in. So I went around a few times on what I'm assuming is the track, and I went over the edge a few times. Kind of unavoidable, I certainly had no intention of vandalism. I don't see how anything I did could affect anyone using the track, nor do I see how it wouldn't happen regardless. I wasn't the only one out there either.

I don't even feel good about participating now, but I'll at least go out to help and maybe ride along.

Don't feel too terrible, Davin. It doesn't look any different today than it did yesterday afternoon before your shenanigans.

I had fun out there, even if conditions were less than desirable. It was good to see the folks that showed and get a bit of seat time. I hope the conditions are better next weekend. Many thanks to Kent and the other volunteers who made this event go off.

It's all Davin's fault! No, not really. LOL

Warm weather, lack of snow, and crazy see-thru ice made for an odd day. We didn't race wheel-to-wheel at all today, but there was racing. The snowmachiners' track had some really tight turns that probably wouldn't have worked for us even in good conditions, so we went with plan B.

Two cars, each starting on opposite sides of a mostly symmetrical track, racing each other back to their starting lines. We raced until we got bored, which made for quite a bit of seat time by 2pm.

Thanks to all the participants, and especially to all the volunteers who helped make it happen!

Glad to hear the event worked out, for the most part, today.

I too hope we have much better conditions next weekend!

Haha, I was thinking the same thing.

I actually might make next weekends event!
I'm pretty stoked for it, even if I decide to just work a corner and snag a few ridealongs (I'll bring bribes ) It seems like you guys always have a blast, and learn a different skillset for controling your vehicle.

Even though it was standing water on glare ice, I was still able to learn somethings by the seat time yesterday. Practicing standing starts, momentum changes without traction, working on smooth shifting and braking transitions. Gotta say my car performed like a precision instrument.

Looking forward to some traction this coming weekend to work in another whole set of skills.

The track is in at Big Lake!

Even better news? The snowmachiners have asked that we get cars out there over the next few days to clean it up a little, and especially cars with studded tires to chew it up a bit.

No excuses for anyone now. Who is up for a trek out there before Sunday's showdown?

Any of the bartlett crowds?

I think the snowmachiners are going to be practicing on Saturday, so be courteous, keep it fun, and blame Davin for wrecked snowbanks.

You'll turn in at "B" off of South Big Lake Road. It is actually a boat ramp. The track is the large oval to the right as you drive in on the ice road.

Generally, it's the first right after passing the island you see on the left.

The first one or two rights may take you across the lake to the north side.

It all just depends on how the roads were plowed this year.

You'll likely see other cars and lots of snowmachines and associated trailers.

I love creative "quoting". I'm sure this is what Kent really meant.

Wish I could make it out there tonight for a few laps... this week is full.

I fully expect those going out to 'play' to also show up at the races to have some fun competition, or to at least help us run the event ;-)

We will need corner workers, pit crew/control, assist with scoring, etc since it will be busy on the lake.

Registration starts at 9am - volunteers should be there no later than 9:30 (earlier is better).
