The factory U brace is meant to submarine the motor and transmission downwards in a front end collision. Aftermarket bars tie the car together and cross along the bottom, preventing the motor and transmission from pushing downwards and away from you in the cabin. It also squares off the frame in front to prevent a major collapse.
That's the engineering standpoint and A reason not to remove it.

JD - your car is now illegal to use on the street in aus man. if it came with side airbags, removing them = defectable car, and CTP won't pay your medical bills if you have an accident.

Pretty much every mod on my car is illegal but I'm happy enough to take responsibility for myself. This is no daily driver, this is a car that should be towed to the track but I'm not willing to buy a tow car and trailer and find a place to store it so it is what it is.

Gotcha. Might as well go the full hog and gut it then really. Weld the door skins in place, cut the boot out and then weld the bootlid on, all that jazz.

gonna bump this thread and see if anyone has done anything fun in the last few months. I have gutted the doors, now looking to move to Lexan windows to drop even more weight there. I will get some pics up later.
Also having a pair of CF headlight blanks made, passenger side with a nasa duct. |

received_1715608418469233 by David, on Flickr pics of the doors, I kept the front rails to keep the glass in place with less work needed to make that happen. There are brackets to hold the windows down if I want/need to bring them down due to heat. 20170417_131254 by David, on Flickr 20170414_104243 by David, on Flickr I was also given a bag of beautiful aluminum bolts from MSI, to do with what ever I wanted. 20170418_074918 by David, on Flickr 20170423_135326 by David, on Flickr 20170423_140805 by David, on Flickr |

Nothing too serious compared to many of you, but I have ordered my Oswald Performance sub-frame brace and it's in the queue to be manufactured.
Last time on the scales at race weight: 3100 pounds I'm hoping to be at 3060-3070 this year with just a few mods Stay light and stay fast! |

Merging a 01 2.5RS into a 95 shell. Pulling the ABS wiring out as well as the SRS wires in the bulk head. Rear door wiring deletes. Rally car, so full cage. That doesn't help the diet one bit.

What type of Lexan windows are you grabbing the molded type or the thinner ones that need the inner frame? |

It's all good, if someone gets a chance ( because I am sure your not the only one who gutted some doors) to put the USDM gutted doors on the scales.
I have been waiting for deals on doors to get an extra set to put on for track days. I don't want to hear it about rules and classes , when I show up to autocross I just run in whatever they put me in . I don't go often enough to really collect points or concern myself with who the national champ is, it's just for fun. |

Still room to improve on them doors.
Drill holes in the sides before the rubber all the way down. Could probably size them to make them aesthetically pleasing at the same time |

Local drag racing at the track
My car is down around 2840 now and I still am running the VF30 so I am going to run it at a local track here and find out what it does. I'll post up Saturday the results. Last time I was at the track ( 2010 ) I was running the VF30 with the OTS Cobb map and full weight (3344 for daily use before find this thread) . I ran a 13.8 with a horrible launch, I bogged so bad. This time I should do better. Not my video, but my car.

I bought a replacement defroster. This thing is the size of my hand. It's amazing on the weight savings. Lets see if it works on the windshield when needed
I need to host my own pics of it: http://www.t7design.co.uk/index.php/...eater-24v.html |
