Default Keeping exhaust clean in winter?

Might be kind of a stupid question but what's the best way to keep an exhaust from getting tarnished/ruined from all the road salt and sand during the winter? I just put on a new Invidia N1 exhaust with the TI tip. I just dont want it to get all rusted or wrecked from the salt. Are touch-less carwash worth the money or is it better to just try and get at it with a microfiber mitt with some soap and water on warmer days? Also are touch free car washes safe on painted wheels? I had my stock wheels painted flat black (automotive paint applied with proper equipment in paint booth).

Just wash it often with regular car wash soap and water regularly. Then polish with some aluminum polish to bring the shine back as needed. I don't see a touch-less car wash hurting anything (as long as you're not pulling into it with smoking hot brakes), except the fact that they don't clean that well.

Best thing you can do is put your car on jacks, spray down the bottom every time it gets above freezing.

Touchless carwashes are fine for painted wheels. Water doesn't hurt your car's paint does it? Just be sure to keep the soap off the intercooler, it will melt.

I jacked up the right rear and went under it with a blanket and some hot soapy water and it worked great You don't have to jack it up but I was bored and had time so it made it a lot easier. But look at it now, Bling! I even blinged up the piping a little bit

The rest of the car is dirty but the exhaust was clean

WD40. Seriously.

If you're not on a budget, I'd say some powder coat would do mighty well. Other than that, wash wash wash. Although you really shouldn't for environmental reasons, a little WD40 or some other metal friendly lubricant doesn't hurt either, minus the possible smell.

I used to use WD to polish pipes on MX bikes and it def helps keep the rust away. That was actually the original intended use of WD.

FWIW, I have an HKS hi-power and I work at a gas station with a car wash. The one I recommend is anything with the underbody spray. It costs $6 where I work and the last time my car was COVERED in road salt, it took it all off no problem. By COVERED, I mean that the salt was starting to come off in flakes off the exhaust it was so thick, but it was too cold for our wash to be open. I would say its worth it to do every couple weeks or when its really dirty. My exhaust has basically zero rust on it and I've had it on for two years, but I am able to wash it for free at least once a week. I do the maintenance on the wash, so I have to test it to make sure I didn't screw it up fairly often.
