Once I'm able to get the car moving on the highway for a bit the idle would return to normal. Other times the condition manifest when I've been driving the car, everything normal, I make a quick stop and turn the car off. When I get back to the car and fire it up the idle will be high, once again, getting on the road for a bit and the idling returns to normal. Saturday I installed a brand new OEM Idle air control valve but to my surprise after driving the car and it operating perfectly normal I made a stop and turned the car off for about 10-15 minutes. When I fired it back on it started to idle just above 1000 rpm. Now I don't understand what is happening, why the issue ? Seems to be related to the coolant temperature. Could it be that I installed the thermostat upside down ? Your help input is always appreciated.
Have you changed the IAC? Or cleaned the port?

Yes, I installed a brand new oem IAC, today the car started to high idle, I pulled over and opened the hood to take a look at the throttle body mechanism where the throttle cable is attached. I think I just need to slack the cable, I pushed the mechanism to the closed position and the idle normalized. I'll report back after I adjust the cable.

I rerouted the cruise control cable and gave the throttle cable a little more slack. No more mysterious high idling, problem fixed.
