Wonder what an ACT 6 puck looks like after 21500 miles?
Hi,
I am having my built RAW Performance engine refreshed after 21500 daily driven miles. The information below relates to an ACT 6 puck clutch with extream pressure plate. Part number: SB4-XTG6 My definition of "daily driving" is... running mid 11 second 1/4 mile passes every so often, Hundreds of hard launches & data pulls... plus some easy driving to and from work, road trips etc... Warning... for those of you who never looked at a brand new ACT 6 puck clutch... beware... they come new with VERY LITTLE material on the puck. I will post a side by side comparison of my 21500 mile disk and a brand new one when mine arrives. (I would almost bet someone $$$ that I could get another 22K miles and a 10 second pass out of the 21500 mile disk/pp but ... why take the chance?<..> Here is the trick to keeping any clutch working a very long time... even when punishing it by hard launching: DON'T let it slip... When I take off from a stop, I take extreme care to limit the slipage... I NEVER spin the RPM up past 1.5K and S L O W L Y release the clutch... If I on on a hill, I use the e-brake to hold me until it is time to go.... I NEVER use the clutch to hold the car on an un even road. Now... when I drag race it... I do use launch control which drives a little slipping during the transition from zero MPH to 2 MPH... when the LC lets all he!! break loose (full throttle) My review of this clutch: It works fine for daily driving as long as you don't abuse it... It hooks like a BITCH and holds the power with zero slip.... I recommend it and plan to keep using it!!! sorry about this one... forgot to get full FW photo Special note regarding the photo below: What you see is the main thrust bearing of my STi engine after 21500 miles. The side you can see more copper on is the side that the crank thrust pressure was occurring... the ACT Extream pressure plate does cause more pressure to this bearing but I am not concerned with this. (the side with little copper showing is the flip side of the bearing)
