Default 05 xt consuming oil

I have had the car for one year now and at each oil change it was low on oil but I checked it at the 3000K mark and ended up 2.5 quarts low. I have no smoke coming out the tail pipe and no other issues with the car. The td04 was factory replaced just before I purchased the vehicle. Any ideas?

+1 on the rotella. Turbo subarus tend to eat a little oil, especially if it's Mobil one.

Another thing to check would be the valve cover gaskets, if you can smell burnt oil in your engine bay after driving, they need to be replaced.

I also recommend rotella. My 99 legacy burns so much of any other oil besides Rotella. I've tried several different brands.

pull the TMIC and see if there is a large pool of oil in it. If so, your turbo seals may have gone. You may find your 2.5qts in there.

Rotella T6 Full Synthetic FTW! Should have my oil sample results back from the lab soon with how good the stuff does breakdown wise. From the initial reading it looked very good!

I'll be switching to rotella ASAP and I'll check the ic tomorrow. Thanks for the comments.

keep in mind every time you switch oils you'll have a bit of usage as seals always respond differently to changes.

Once you find an oil you're happy with, stick with it. In my opinion, it will really respond differently with your 2nd round of Rotella (if you go that direction), meaning, you'll see less oil disappear after your 2nd oil change interval. If mechanically you don't have other issues.

Hope your TMIC isn't full of 2.5qts of missing oil

I pulled the ic tonight and there is not enough oil in there to be a bad turbo. I'm still digging into it. Pulling the dp tomorrow.

Normal dude, my 04 was a quart and a half to two quarts low every oil change. If you are in boost on those you get lots of blow by, main thing is to add oil between changes and not worry about it. Keep the oil level up and then worry about it if and when something blows but you should be good. I was worried about the same thing as you from 5k on but never had an issue and sold the car with 70k which was stage 2 then vf39 ots for most of it's life. Mine seemed to be happier with Pentosynth 5w-40 which I bought from these guys, good luck.

Glad the ic did not have a large pool inside.

One option that many like to address blow by is to pick up the Grimmspeed Air/Oil separator. Works great as long as you aren't using any alternative crazy fuels like E-85 or race fuel.

All assuming that you have no mechanical issues. In addition, my wife's 2.5i legacy is recommended to go 5K in between oil changes, but she's always a quart down at 3K and has done this since we picked it up at 18K. So I always change the oil at 3K, just like my legacy GT. (And it ate the Quaker state the car lot had put in it when we bought it, muchh better on Castrol GTX).

My GT eats zero oil at 23psi now that I have an air/oil separator in place. (this is my second motor )

Hope your mechanicals are fine.

I guess that's why I worry. My lgt never consumes anything and my wrx before it didn't either. Maybe .5 quarts at 3k. I pulled the dp and nothing there either. I'll take it as is it still performs fine and gets expected mpgs. As always thanks for the input.

My old leggy burned a ton of oil (read 3-4 quarts added a change), an AOS stopped this all together..
