Default Subaru 15208AA100 - Subaru Black Oil Filter

I contacted Tokyo Roki technical support in Japan via email and had some questions answered as my 2020 STi came with the black oil filter specified in the title.

The filters are made of different blends of paper (not synthetic) the details are confidential corporate information.
The filter media “roughness” is 100 microns in size (grain of sand). To prevent oil pressure drops.
They are made to stop 80% of particles 50 microns in size.
The bypass valve is set between 100kPa (14.5psi) and 200kPa (29psi). The details of the specifics cannot be disclosed due to compliance matters with vehicle manufacturers.

Just as a side note, for comparison. Purolator BOSS filters are made to stop 99+% of particles 20 microns in size.

Are these filters still available or are we still stuck with the blue Honeywell?

You can order the tokyo rokis online. I get mine from ebay. Mazda uses them. They are the same oem filters for Mazda rx8 series 2 engines.

Apparently 15208AA100 is discontinued.
Would the 15208AA170 on the WRX work?
I know the 170 is bigger in diameter similar to the 100 than the 12a.

Oem mazda rx8 oil filters. Made by Tokyo roki. Slightly taller which is a good thing. I have used them since I ran out of oem black Subaru filters. Here is a link. You can get them everywhere though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2011-M...YAAOSwrHtcRLb-

I wonder if the bypass valve has the same pressure or not.
