Here's a quick video capture of BtSsm running on an Android phone for those who are wondering what it looks like in action

For the hardcore nerds out there, here's a preview of a new feature that will be included in the next update in the coming days. If desired, you can add your own custom fields. This assumes that you know the address defined in the ECU that represents what you want, as well as the length in bytes, the formula to use to display the data, etc.

An update has just been published to Google Play, and should be available within a couple of hours. It includes:
  • new feature: CUSTOM FIELDS can be added
  • new field: "closed loop", 0=open loop, 1=closed loop (fibble)
  • enhancement: deleting a log now asks for confirmation (magnusonsubie)

I just chose 10 fields, and sampling rate averaged 74ms (about 13 samples per second). It depends on how many fields are chosen though. Less fields=faster, more fields=slower

Please let me know if you have any other questions

How about lag from realtime? Is it pretty instant? Coming from OBDII BT adapter with Torque running at ISO9141-2-5-BAUD, so the lag is pretty terrible on that, which limits me to displaying only parameters that are slow changing (voltage, temps, fuel trims, etc). Logging was pretty much out of the question unless I hooked up the Tactrix and my laptop, so I am pretty excited about this.

There's no noticeable lag See post #11 above for a sample log file from the app. It logs as fast as the ECU sends it out via SSM protocol (much faster than generic OBD via an ELM327 device like you mentioned)

It's really fun to watch the gauges on the BtSsm app as you goose the throttle. The boost gauge on the app is actually more responsive than my mechanical (albeit stepper motor) gauge!

Last question, I promise. Any plans in the near future to bundle the software with dongle?

No problem, ask away Regarding bundling, since google play (where you need to purchase the BtSsm app from your device) is a separate entity, I'm not sure how it could be bundled with the physical adapter. But all suggestions are welcome.

Buy adapter bundle, include a $10 play gift card? Just a thought, though I could see that being a pain.

Another update just published... A bug was fixed for certain devices using android 5.0.1

Also included is a new feature to allow custom ecu firmware in some cases. Before the app would just say "Unsupported ECU found. ID=xxxx" and close. The new feature offers a new button "Create Alias" that, if clicked, will ask you to "Enter original ECU ID for alias". Entering that will use that ECU ID instead going forward. Note that this only works if the custom ecu firmware has all the same address mapping as the original firmware.

Currently, it cannot. It only reads the ECU.

Does your app support Multi-Window for Samsung devices?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2024399
Seems like a pretty easy feature to add, just a line added.

Are there any parameters that cannot be viewed via your product vs the full laptop w/ Tactrix?

Advanced questions!

Currently, it does not support multi-window for samsung devices. It takes over the whole screen. However, I'll have a look at that

As-is, the app has a subset of fields that I believe are the most commonly used. So there are a lot of other fields that are not included. This being said, there is now support to add your own custom fields for power-users such as yourself if you can supply the field definition (address, length, format, etc)

You would be surprised on how well multi-window works to re-size applications.

I would be running your app on my Samsung tablet or my Note 3. On the note, it may be a bit smooshed, but you would likely be able to have a couple parameters up while having Waze or Google Maps up.

On my tablet, I would run it in landscape, like I am currently doing with Torque.
http://i.imgur.com/0Bb57tF.png

You can see that Maps loads up fine (search bar is slightly cut off), but basically looks like how it does in portrait mode on a phone. I would be more than happy to test this with you if you decide to implement this.

wow, you were right, that was easy It'll be included in the next update (probably within a week)

Sorry for the small phone-based screenshot, but it demonstrates the feature at least.

btw, if that's your current setup with an elm327 adapter, I think you'll really like the responsiveness of the BtSsm gauges and values (about 10 to 25 refreshes per second, depending on how many fields are selected)

Yeah, that was a lot of my reasoning for asking the questions above. I can really only use Torque for monitoring things that are not "real-time" critical.

I see the different styles you have of gauges (LGT/STi). Any plans to do a green gauge style theme?
