Default any reccomendations on sti brake pads?

hey, ive already searched for more information on sti brake pads, but i would like to ask for more opinions please. i am using these brake pads strictly for the street/daily driving. my price range is between $160-200 for fronts and around $90-115 for the rear brake pads. if you have had any past expericence on the reliability/brake dust/pad life, please add that too. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

1 more question: is it bad to have different brand brake pads in the front than the rear? exampple: EBC Red Ceramic(fronts)/Ferodo pads(rear)?

I recommend EBC Redstuff CERAMIC pads

about $110 per pair for the fronts
less than $100 for the rear

light dust
light noise
good bite hot or cold

see my review thread:

I'm going to give the Redstuff pads a try after I'm done with the Bobcats. This isn't to say that I'm not happy with Carbotech. They are awesome pads. However, the $60 difference in price coupled with some very good reviews is tempting me to give EBC another try (I had some Greenstuff pads on my 02 WRX that were absolutely horrible).

just make sure you get the REDSTUFF CERAMIC

not the old redstuff compound

follow break in procedure (no "to zero" stops)

cheers

I run Hawk's on mine, the regular HPS will work fine for you. there are plenty of reviews out there on them.

Whatever you do do NOT get porterfield R4-S. They are awful on the STi.

i have purchased these red stuff ceramic brake pads for an 2004 STi. I will do a little review of why i am dissatisfied, but here is a little backround. i put 29,500 miles on my stock brake pads and i have not tracked or autocossed with them. I was looking for daily driving pads with good life, less brake dust, average price range, and good bite. i bought these brake pads for the front and i currently still run the stock brake pads in the rear. i did the proper brake in, by driving around town not doing any hard stops.

1.these brake pads are a little loud, all u can hear is scratching when slowly comming to a stop
2. i look and feel the surface of the front rotor and compare it with the rear that has stock pads and i instantly noticed that u can see scratches on the rotor because these are a little harsh. ive read that these do not damage the rotor, but after driving with them since a few days afterwards, i noticed all these flaws.
3. along with the scratching of the rotor, i could feel the uneven surface of the rotor due to the brake pads
4.these do not stop as good as the stock pads on the sti, and it does not bite with little effort as the stock ones would

these pads do emit less brake dust, but i would never buy these again, just because its annoying that it sounds like harsh scratching even comming to a stop braking lightly. to add with that the scratching and uneven wear of the rotor now really makes me unpleasent.i would not reccomend these brake pads. im am just giving a review to those out there who are inquiring about these pads.

if you have any questions, feel free to ask or pm me.

Carbotech Bobcats. Do note that complaints from Bobcat owners are few and far between. Not to mention the fact that the pads are less than new stock pads from Subaru for an STi.

You might try "bedding" them in with some hard braking from about 60mph down to about 10mph, not coming to a stop. This will probably make most of your complaints go away.

I've really enjoyed my Ferodo D2500's. Quiet as stock with a hair more dust. Much better, consistent stopping to boot.

I would check out the carbotech bobcats. I have heard that they are very good and will be getting them as a street set of pads for my STi (currently have carbotech xp-8 for the track).
