Default what em needed for 272 cams N/A?

i'm getting cams done at delta this week and i am not sure which grind to get. i am leaning toward 272 but i've been told it could throw a cel and F up fuel metering and air readings. could i fix this with a piggyback, if so which one, or what are my other options?
thanks

yes MY99 rs i/h/e - i'm getting the cams done because i need new head gaskets. the guys at my shop suggested going for the 272 grind but now i'm thinking 264 would be better.

Why even bother? For the price of those cams, retainers, and gasket kit, you can buy an EJ205 swap.

Basically, it's a silly waste of money trying to make an NA EJ fast.

@ arexthunder: Ask a mod to move your thread over to normally aspirated. You won't get much useful comment in here.

5K? EJ205 longblocks with wiring harness go for as little as $1100 all the time on NASIOC. Hell, even EJ257 longblocks are only $3K.

Besides, even if those parts were free, you're going to have a loud car with horrible idle that runs 14's. Why?

i second that, its pointless, why not just by an sti engine and run 13's with a stock like feel. besides an ej205 is cast everything, i have one sitting in my basement and it is a 100lb paperweight. do the right thing

Is that because turbo cars are the only cars worthy of engine management tuning? That's pretty close-minded don't you think?

arexthunder: If you get the 272s you're gonna see changes in the idle and may get CELs from the excessive overlap. A piggyback is only gonna change the fueling, not the timing. Depending on what the final goal is and what you're willing to put up with, more than a piggyback will be best for you.

That seems to be the prevalent attitude in this forum, doesn't it?

Ask about N/A issues: "go turbo"
Ask about piggybacks: "get a standalone"

Regardless of what the question is, they all have to be hammered into the standard cookie-cutter WRX-with-mods shape one way or another.

My comment to the OP stands. You'll get answers in the N/A forum and mostly heckling from the peanut gallery in here.

Storm: I'm on the OT's side, and strictly N/A. What the **** are you barking at me for?

NA Subarus aren't worth spending any considerable money on. We were just trying to help point out the best bang for the buck.

I spent a TON of money on a NA 4cylider in the past (Which made more power than an NA EJ) and I regret it. It's such a stupid thing to do, especially in a heavy Impreza.

But I'm that's my advice.

If you would've given a reason in the first place I wouldn't have responded toward you directly. The prevailing attitude in this section shouldn't shouldn't be ignored as acceptable.

Sorry but this is a pile of crap. Sorry you spent your money on the wrong parts and regretted it. Did you learn anything from it?

No, I spent it on the right parts and it made more power than his or your NA EJ and in a chassis 500lbs lighter, but even that was pointless compared to FI. The point is making a NA 4-cylinder fast is a loosing battle. It's very expensive and you get little per $. No one can argue that. Did you learn anything from it?

$5k includes labour.
i think i am going to just get a 264 grind + i-speed reflash, and i think i'll be happy with the power i get from that 'cause my car is fun as hell to drive now. i've got lots of low end torque, no lag, and i don't drag race.
thanks for the input guys
