Mexico gets the GR Yaris, so he knows people that got to enjoy one of them.

The GR Yaris has a Corolla rear suspension setup, so presumably the GR Corolla will just retain its own suspension setup from back to front. Or they're just extending the GR Yaris to fit under the Corolla.

I think physics dictates that the GR Corolla won't be as fun as the GR Yaris simply because of its mass, yet the Corolla is still appealing for lack of AWD performance hatchbacks.

So the odds of me seeing one driving around Texas are pretty damn high. I wish i could hop the boarder and bring one state side, for track purposes. Just have to wait till i'm over 60 to actually enjoy it.

What are odds that it's a hybrid now, since WRC goes hybrid this year?

More unobtanium anyways... hopefully the Corolla doesn't suck, so I don't have to buy an STi when 2023 rolls around.

Rest assured that Subaru is already tweaking the rear bumper of the STI, of course it is to incorporate an electric grill so you can cook hotdogs, burgers, corn, ribs and even warm up churros while tailgating at football games, attending soccer lessons for the kids and let's not forget the all mighty dog run. I mean gotta take the dog out too you know.

Did someone say Churros? New WRX made for those "big ol women in San Antonio"

There are ways. If the car is registered in Mexico, the only requirement is that it isn’t in the US for a year consecutively. That’s how a guy from Luxembourg brought his Defender 110 camper to tour the US for 6 months. He said as long as he didn’t keep the car here for a year, it was treated as a visitor. It had Luxembourg plates and everything.

So you’re saying I can buy one and just have it registered at my grandma’s old house in Mexico, and I can enjoy here in AZ as long as I park it at her place for a weekend a year?

If you have Mexican citizenship, this is a lot easier. If you are a US citizen, you will probably have to register it in grandma’s name.

How do they verify that?

"Have you been to Mexico in the last year?"
"Yes."
"Carry on."

Being half-Mexican, and having lots of family in Mexico... Might have to start pulling in some favors...

You have to actually do temporary import paperwork each time, or that's how it normally works anyhow. But yes, if you're OK with shipping the car in and out every year to do it, you can bring cars in for special purpose that way. Usually some additional requirements around mileage, etc.

Not sure. Probably some record of border crossing should you ever be accused. It is probably pretty unlikely to be enforced.

I can just drive the 3 hours instead of shipping. Hmm I could have my cousin on the registration or my mom (dual citizenship)

Default 500 Extreme GRMN Yaris Limited Editions Will Be Made

Quote:

Extreme Toyota GRMN Yaris limited edition arrives with major performance upgrades

Toyota GR Yaris receives a host of upgrades to create new hardcore GRMN Yaris hot hatch

Toyota's GR Yaris has been one of the biggest hits of the past 18 months, offering sports car-rivalling pace in a compact, practical and relatively affordable package. But the car’s creator, the Gazoo Racing division, has now honed the baby hot hatch even further to create the GRMN Yaris.

Revealed at the tuning-focused Tokyo Auto Salon, the GRMN Yaris takes the already-extreme GR Yaris and introduces a host of upgrades. The car’s three-cylinder turbocharged engine has the same 268bhp output as before, and only a small increase in torque (from 370Nm to 390Nm), but there’s a raft of mechanical alterations elsewhere that should make the car significantly different to drive on road and track.

The car’s transmission has been tweaked, with closer ratios and a lower final drive - and a switch of materials in the gearbox’s internals to give it extra strength in the lower gears. In addition, the GR Yaris’s Torsen differentials (front and rear) have been replaced by mechanical limited-slip diffs.

Carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is used for the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler - and Gazoo has also removed the rear seats entirely. This major compromise on practicality contributes to an overall weight saving of around 20kg compared with the regular GR Yaris.

The new car sits slightly lower than before (by around 10mm) to help lower the centre of gravity, and there are 545 more spot welds and additional structural adhesive to help make the body more rigid - along with a major brace where the rear seats used to be.

Gazoo claims the GR “has evolved into a car that can be driven faster and with more peace of mind, with improved braking force, grip, cornering and following performance based on feedback from professional drivers”.

The GRMN is being offered in Japan only, and in tiny numbers; indeed, Gazoo announced at the reveal that the opportunity to order the car will be made available via a lottery. Just 500 examples will be offered in total, and the price can reach as much as 8,467,000 Yen - or just over £54,000 - if the Circuit Pack is chosen as an option. It’ll be available on just 50 examples of the entire production run, and brings matte-steel paint, bespoke BBS 18-inch alloy wheels, Bilstein shock absorbers with adjustable dampers, a larger carbon-fibre spoiler and a side skirt.

There will also be a Rally Pack that includes a roll bar, a different spec of dampers, underbody protection and, curiously, the deletion of the more extreme elements of the car’s bodykit.

Gazoo says that GRMN Yaris owners will receive additional parts and software upgrades as part of a new ‘personalisation program’ that’s designed to be a two-way communication process that could be mutual benefit for all owners and the manufacturer.

I can't believe they are limiting this to 500 and only in Japan. Going to be like the next 22B.

I need to research which countries would be easiest for lateral movement if I ever decided to attempt dual citizenship.

We may be moving to Taiwan for 3 years, and they offer the GR4 there.

My wife would never let me try to squeeze the 4 of us in one though.

I’m trying to work out a 12-24 month rotation in Japan. It would be down to shoehorning the 3 of us into a GR4 or buying a GC8/GF8 STI to import after my rotation.

Wonder if Toyota would be integrating some form of hybrid powertrain for a (future) GR Corolla to have some tenuous association with their ongoing WRC involvement as 2022 marks the beginning of the hybrid era for WRC since there's more space with the Corolla platform.

Yeah was called a Prius C and Toyota strange not strange killed it 3 years ago before they could fit it with this awesome 3 cylinder turbo.
