after reading all this i think we should form a "union" and all agree to a base price to avoid undercutting....which wasnt the point of our pricepoint.

I think that may fall under collusion

Quote:
Our whole pricepoint was based on me and mikeys locations.....i dont realistically feel people would pay me $350-450 for an e-tune when hb speed, yimi, gruppe-s, harman, crawford, pdt, garagegt, garage tuning, eq, gst, etc etc etc are all within 4-5 hours of me.....and mike is around the plethora of tristate shops.

basically our thinking was why would anyone pay us $450 for an etune when they can drive 20 miles and get on a dyno and get a hands on tune/diagnostics for the same price.
Hmm... I think you're missing the point of remote tuning. Its mainly aimed at people who don't have a good tuner in their area. An in person tune is always preferential, but there are still a good deal of areas that don't have a good tuner. That's where most of these customers come from in my experience. I have also had customers who decided to get a remote tune from me after getting a local in person tune because they were not satisfied previously. But that type of customer is much less frequent.

Also remember that the $450+ tunes are for very advanced setups. All the general stage 2 setups fall in the $350 range.

Quote:
Yeah...the graph thing was just based on the dashes.....maybe epiphan saw your graphs and copied them. i guess i never really noticed the dashes on dyno jets or dd...but they are there. I just found it a strange as im used to the solid line "default".
I never looked at other dyno charts too much when i designed my software. I just used the dashed lines because its more aesthetically pleasing and shows the actual power curve more clearly. I'm not too surprised that others would do the same.

Thanks

and i really don't see a problem with Ed's fees and think they are more than fair. I'm actually looking to bring up my rates very soon as it takes longer than if i had the car in person due to people getting bad logs, not knowing how to operate computers, going thru drive thru while i sit and wait for logs to be returned to me, heck i even had customers who left me hanging for close to 3 hours and then apologized because they had a date with their girlfriend and forgot to tell me while we were in the middle of their tune.

I opened my big mouth and look Ray is now thinking of upping price. Well now I might have to go to another tuner then if I have to pay more. Should of left him out of it.

Also mentioning this, Tuning with a local shop you pay $350-450 for a dyno tune but for re-tuning later on the dyno it's only $150-200.

I think most remote tuners are thinking about raising their prices because of how much time it takes to get a good tune dialed in. As you can see, I'm not the only one .

Re-tune pricing always depends on how much the setup changed. If its a simple change like a catback or intake, I always charge just for the time it takes to get it dialed in. If the setup changes significantly (turbo, injectors, etc), then it is a completely new tune at that point. I think this is more than fair and my customers tend to agree.

Thanks

I have been nothing but happy with my XPT Stg. 2 tune from Braden. I can only assume that EQ and XPT together will produce great results.

As an IT support professional, I can attest that remote help is not as easy as doing it in person, and can see where the extra time to cost comes in to play.

Is it possible to upgrade from XPT 2 map to one of your maps, paying just the price diff ?

I uploaded XPT 2 map just a week ago ... too bad I didn't know about this new project earlier.

in retrospect i have thought about it and i am also glad that ed is willing to roll the dice and help the subaru community that can't get to him. we need more quality tuners in the game!

i think ron spent a solid week on the phone with me so its not gonna be a cakewalk like strapin down a car on the dyno so maybe it is justified...

whats my tuning bill up to now ron? 100$ an hour 72 hours...put it on my tab!

good luck to ed braden and EQ.

Let me chat with Braden on that and see if he'd be willing to work something out for his previous customers.

Thanks
