Recent and Current Highschoolers, got me a question..
No, dont need a hookup for cradle robbing.
But, for those that RECENTLY (say like last 3 years) attended highschool and or are currently in highschool I was curious about something, homework mainly. What kind of homework and how much home work did you have throughout highschool? As in just reading a chapter or actual mental stimulation of doing summations and calculating atoms? Time frame, was it an everynight occurance or it varied, and if it varied what did it fluctuate between, and or give me a rough average of what you thought it was. For example, one night you had 8hours calculus and world history the next night had 1 hour french, so you averaged (spanning a weeks worth) ~3-4hours mostly physical homework (the math, not reading) I am curious to hear the state of schools these days for a couple coworkers yesterday were discussing schools and teachers and waste of money and... (it started with me *tching about ASD wasting money on building new additions every year rather than one large addition, and just went... OT LOL) they were both amazed at the amount of homework their kids have, one has an 8th grader that CONSTANTLY has ~6-8hrs of homework a NIGHT, the other has a 4th grader that actually has cried a couple times because she has ~7hrs of homeworks and barely has time to eat dinner. So wondering if the HS is the same or it is still semi slack, so I know if I shoudl fire off an email to Carol Comeau or not. If its true across the board I can definitely see the reason for soo many suicides up here and the absurdly high drop out rates. </Mini rant on> I thought Teachers were suppossed to *gasp* TEACH the children, not load them down with assignments to teach themselves out of a book</rant off>

Home work I was given or home work that I actualy did?
Not much, not even every night, on the nights I did have homework, I would say 2 hours max (unless I waited to do a project the night before it was due). |

Graduated in '04 and in high school I hardly had any. Junior high I had atleast 6-9hrs a night (mon-thurs and sun). The homework load is all in the teacher and some like giving homework so they can see what their students are actually learning and use it as a supplement to what they tought in class.

So I'm probably the most recent. And Yeah I rarely had that much HW. Maybe 2 hours tops for anything(rarely). I graduated with a 3.111gpa. I did slack, however I would say study 3 hours and you could get a 4.0 easly. With High School especially, you have teachers that really don't just give you straight up homework. It's more along the lines of, here's the assignment for class today, if you don't finish it's homework. So if you just do everything in class, you really didn't have to worry about it at home. I do agree with you on extensions for the buildings. It gets annoying when they add this or that without just doing everything at once.
Junior year was probably the easiest part of school I ever had. I almost never studied and I graduated with a 4.0gpa. Had all the honor roll and what not. However, I saw Junior year as a big waste of time, it followed more along the lines of just prepping you for your freshman year. It really showed no decent purpose. Concerning teacher methods and such, they do a good job. But like I said get the work done in class and everything is fine. Drop out rates are not just the teachers faults. We have so many unions up here offering quick and easy pay that many just take up that route. I had tramendous amount of classmates telling me they left school because a union job pays them so good already. Plus, it's not like the state entirely forces the kids to go back to school or anything. Parents signing off on emancipation are ones to blame as well. They are the primary thing to making sure a student succeeds and stays in school. |

As a senior right now:
AP literature makes me read like a new story every 2 days, and I get homework from them every night. Essay every 2 weeks from the class also. And I have to known like every detail of the story which isn't to fun. And when it comes to test the short essay answer are not that fun also since it must be specific. AP psychology gives homework every time after a test, which we had a test every week. The test in them are really intense also, With all the vocabulary and details you need to know it's always nerve racking. AP is intense if you don't pay attention enough or at all. These classes alone, I have to read or study for them at least 1-2 hours. Then the rest of the classes are laid back. I have at least 2-3 classes to study for. Studied at least 2-3 hours every night. Alot more work than slack for me. Teachers are great though. I have the type where they really push you to achieve and doesn't let anyone slack. But, if you sleep or not pay attention to them they just let you learn the hard way. But fun classes none the less. |
