Default New Legacy GT

So I got an invitation from CarMart Subaru to attend their unveiling of the new Subaru Legacy GT.

"Refreshments will be provided" was clearly written on the invitation.

Anyhow, my buddy got an invite to the BMW 6 series last month and took me with him and I figured I'd return the favor - kinda sorta - and take him along to CarMart.

At the BMW 6 launch, there were hundreds of people crammed into BMW of Peabody's showroom.

At the Subaru Legacy GT launch this evening, there were 4 of us.

And that included the ONE and ONLY Subaru salesman on the premises.

And there were no refreshments.

The car itself - black, manual transmission w/leather - looked very nice from the outside. The interior ot the car seemed a notch up from my WRX from the standpoint of build quality and materials, although the steering wheel seemed anything but sporty.

The GT wore 17" Potenza RE92s (which sucked on my WRX and ended up in the trash after less than a year) but were a beefier profile on the GT and actually looked okay. The rims were cool too.

One point of interest I saw was the square (as in not rectangular) intercooler. It looked almost like an afterthought. The rest of the engine bay was covered with a large plastic cover much like the type of thing you'd see in the engine bay of a VW or Audi.

The other 'guest' inquired of the salesman whether the GT featured the same engine as the STi to which he replied it did but in a de-tuned fashion.

The same 'guest' asked whether he could modify the car to go faster, to which the salesman replied that he could but that it would void his warranty. I couldn't help but bring up the
Magnuson Moss warranty act at this point to make the 'guest' feel better. I added that changing a muffler was not going to void the warranty on his engine. The salesman claimed this was not always the case and that increased back-pressure from the muffler might cause damage to other parts of the car. Yeah, whatever.

My buddy and I left 5 minutes later. And we didn't get offered so much as a bag of pretzels or a soda.

I don't want the GT.

I do want the STi.

I don't want the STi.

I just want refreshments!

I spoke to one of there guys on the phone when i was looking for my STi... the guy jerked me around on the price of the car i wanted for about 20 minutes before he bothered to tell me THE CAR WAS USED!#@[email protected]! At that point he had come down NEAR the price I ended up paying for mine brand new elsewhere. I laughed at him and never called them back. Thank god...

If I had gone there tonight I would have left pissed... and hungry!

I got a chance to drive the Legacy GT today at work before they put it in the showroom. I was pretty impressed with the power, it felt faster than a stock WRX and Forester XT, but nothing compared to the STI. It drove very nice, but with the almost 30K sticker price, I would spend the extra 1K for the STI without a second thought. Just my .02 as for the dealer, we had so much food and drinks they was enough to feed a small country. I dont leave hungry, probably enough leftovers to feed the whole dealership for the next 3 days.
