Using a jack and a lugwrench is usually the best way...

The owner's manual should have that info, but you can't go wrong with moving the fronts to the back and vice-versa on the same side. There are as many differing opinions on tire rotation out there as there is on motor oil types and weights, so good luck finding the 'right' answer if it's not in the manual.

I've worked at 2 different garages doing wheel/tire junk and routine maintanence. The general way to rotate for awd is front to back, and back to front. Don't criss-cross. Thats what I was always told to do. LaterSSS

Hmmm...
I know we're supposed to rotate tires every 7,500 miles or whenever, but after 8,000 (mostly roadtrip) miles my tires aren't really noticably worn differently front-back. Maybe it'll be more apparent if I look at them next to eachother once I've got them off the car...
My BMW used to really scallop the tires (front wheels braking, rear wheels driving), so I swapped them every 6,000 miles, but the Subaru doesn't seem to wear the tires unevenly at all... The fronts are more worn than the rears, but not like I'm used to from front drive cars (Mom's minivan used to eat three sets of front tires before the rears wore out if they weren't rotated).

Thoughts?

Ben

Your tire choice also has something to do w/ rotation. I have directional tires on mine, so I can only go front to back, back to front. I think it's fine to criss-cross(will make you jump, jump) if you don't have directional rotating tires. You should rotate every 7.5K unless you drive really hard. then every 6k or 3k is better. I go every other oil change.

Make sure the fronts are a few PSI more than the rears.
