Question Just test drove an 09 WRX....

... sedan. Satin white pearl... gunmetal wheels. Dead sexy and FAST too. Much, much more than I expected.

I have to admit in 08 when the new WRX's came out I could only bear to look at the five-door(hatch) models. Even those were only so tolerable.

Now that Subaru realized their obvious flaws in the 08's regarding pretty much everything... horsepower, suspension and aero I honestly think they did a total 180 and redeemed themselves with the 09's.

Unfortunately I was car shopping for my wife, so no new car fun for me so to speak. I did however take home a swEEt BMW 540i. Not exactly the car I wanted but it will suffice for now until I can convince her that an 09 WRX is worth every penny.

What does everyone else think about the 09's? Specifically the WRX sedan now that they have been out for a little while?

I test drove 09 hatch last saturday. Well, I didn't like new models until saturday. They are much nicer inside, they feel pretty good.
Are they really fast... I don't know, didn't really had a chance to "push it" too much. But suspenstion is comfortable, and tight enough for daily driver. However sways are must in my opinion. Some little stiffer spring as well. I guess I'm used to my WRX

Also clutch and gas pedal are wayyy much easier/ softer than 04WRX. Good thing in traffic...

In general... Positive, however... I still want STi

We can't convince you let alone your wife. It's HER car, let HER decide. If you haven't learned that by now, let me give you some marriage advice....let her decide as she could give a rat's ass what you think when it comes to cars. When she finds the one she thinks is "cute", that's what she wants and nothing can convince her otherwise.

Um...I think he's just looking for opinions, not to be convinced or receive marriage advice.

Yeah I noticed that too about the intercooler.... and I wasn't used to seeing that plastic manifold on there. I heard the plastic intake manifolds generate better flow though... is that true?

Oh I agree... plus she's almost six months pregnant therefore very hormonal, lol.

No actually I didn't really specify why I said 'no new car fun for me.'

The reason why I was car shopping originally is b/c I found a silver 05 Sti on base and it has been my dream car for five years now so I applied for a loan and was approved. After test driving the Sti, and loving every minute of it, we negotiated a little and then I told the guy to give me 24 hours to think everything over.

I then came to my senses and realized my wife needed a car more than I needed an upgrade from a WRX to an Sti so I did what I thought was the responsible thing and started shopping for her. I test drove two Honda Accords b/c she expressed her affinity for those recently. Then I test drove the Bimmer and was sold.

All this of course was done w/o her present, it's a surprise to her. She knows she's getting a car, just not which one.

Accords are nice cars man, cheap too. I'm actually looking for an accord or a civic for a DD, although I will probably just end up with a 4 banger tacoma since I kind of need a truck.

Hey nothing wrong with that. I'm a member 4011 and still a newbie.

I gave in and purchased a 09 wrx as my daily driver. I stayed away form the earlier build because of the engine problems and hopefully mine continue to run strong. I was looking at the STi but cant really justify the price difference without the $6000 rebate.

The new wrx NVH is greatly improved and very comfortable to drive. It has stiffer springs than the 2002 but strangely more confortable and way more quiet at the same time. What impresses me is the torque. The turbo lag is greatly reduced and the power range works well on the street. My favorite part is that the 5-speed is finally improved! Car can shift into 1st no problem from a roll like 99% of other cars in the world. Shifter is long even with STi short shifter option but with a momo knob it should be good. Not as good as the evo 5-speed but close enough.

I went with 5-door all the way since this is a great grocery getter

I've owned three WRX wagons ('05, '06, '09). Personally, I don't think the '09 feels that fast, but hey, I've only put 8,200 miles on so far. Maybe I just need to give it more time.

Aero? They made the optional sport grille standard and just dropped the base model (the one without sideskirts). They didn't make any changes to the "aero". Most of NASIOC was just too filled with hate over the chrome grille to notice that the '09 WRX looks identical to the '08 WRX .. but with grey paint on the wheels. Yes, the '09 got some meaningful upgrades.. but if I hear one more person say the '09 looks better..

^this

I think the STI wing visually offsets the disproportionate amount of front overhang.
