Default Extended Warranty fair price

Hey guys. I noticed that there are several threads regarding extended warranties in the forum. None of them are up to date. I put a deposit for a 2012 WRX Limited today and would like to know what is a fair price for an extended warranty. Help me out guys so I won't get ripped off....

Thanks for your replies in advance!!!!

The price SOA gives you online is pretty good. They mail you a thing after you get your car.

The last time I tried to buy a WRX they offered me the 5yr/80k for $1,600 and that was because they wanted to treat me good.....

$1200 with the 50% offer?
I thought normal price on the 7/100k/$0 deductible was like $1400?

For GOLD Plus 2.5i maybe; however, the turbo/WRX 4 Cyc would be $300 or so higher - STI, even higher. Not sure if the plans cited are Silver or Gold - there is a price and coverage difference.

May be a bit lower if the Dealer is willing to forgo the minimal profit margin.

The price of the extended warranty is going to vary depending on alot of factors, including where you live and whether or not you purchase a SOA contract.

It will also depend on:

1. How long you want to extend it by mileage/time
2. How much you want your deductible to be
3. The state in which in you live (some states allow for markups)

This is an open ended question that has many answers depending on many variables.

Did you pay MSRP for the car/Options/Accessories?

For the warrantee they charged me msrp. In return I was only charged half for my lowjack.
For the car, 800 under msrp, they threw in the STi short shifter and auto dimming mirror.

I guess that I really should have asked the following question:

Which Gold Plus Plan was it? Term (Years/Months) and Mileage.

It looks good on the surface; however, the Gold Plus could have been discounted in lieu of the car, etc.. and that's okay, normally Can't tell and I am not going to ask further regarding pricing.

Thanks for replying.

I purchased the Gold package for my 2008 Spec.B recently. I believe it's the 80k package. Paid about $1,100 for it. The car was purchased privately and had the factory 60k warranty. I called a few dealers and they quoted me between $1,100 and $1,800. The guy that quoted me $1,800 said it was a "deal" and I wouldn't find another dealer to beat that.

Call a few dealers and get a quote.

its a very expensive piece of mind that rarely pays off. most people don't even keep the car long enough for it to come into play - and those that do, rarely get their $$ worth out of any potential warranty work.

sure, the price is VERY negotiable, but I think very few people that actually buy these, need or use them. it's just a total money maker for the dealership.

Not knowing what you mean by "most"; I can however, speak from personal experience. Tires, paint and rental car (free) have all been paid for by the Gold Plus Plan - and have up to this point more than offset the cost of the plan. First tire was ruined at about 300 miles and that cost about $300 to replace.

With the new Impreza having a new motor, transmission, and a lot of other things, the Gold Plus plan may make sense. Just one man's opinion, and I normally don't buy warranties. One major repair after the 36k miles/3 year initial warrant and you are way ahead. I blew an Engine in my 1996 T-Bird because of a faulty thermostat @ about 25k miles/4 Years. My cost was over $2,500 after Ford paid for about half (included new O2 Sensors, etc).

One A/C repair in our 05 Impreza and (based on the price that had been quoted) and my Gold Plus paid for itself. And as stated above, the tire coverage alone keeps me buying them.
