2008-up won't fit without a major mod to your dash opening. Also, the harness is completely different. See this post.
A few people have made the swap, but it's much easier to get a radio from a 2007 Impreza or 2007-2008 Forester. |

Is it possible to connect a remote turn on wire for an amp to Pin 16 of the 24 pin navi connector [+12 volt Ignition (Run)]?

Or if you're trying to work with existing factory wires, then use pin 14 on the 14-pin harness (power antenna control). On most HUs, that line is only activated while you're in radio mode (AM/FM). But the Navi HUs power that line even when you're listening to other sources (aux, disc, etc.). Just so you're clear... Pin 16 is an input into the Navi HU. It comes from the car's +12V ignition bus. Your ignition key has 4 positions: 1 LOCK (off) 2 ACC (accessory) 3 ON (run) 4 START (crank) The ignition bus (pin 16) gets +12V when the key is in the 3rd position. If you were to use that for an amp, you wouldn't get any sound when you tried to run your radio with the key in the 2nd position (which you might want to do when you want to park for awhile with the engine off). |

[quote=SVXdc;34611557]I'm especially interested to learn if your car still has the Subaru 20-pin radio harness as its "native" plug, with an adapter to convert to the Tom-Tom HU's socket.
Been working a lot still no pics but yes there is the standard plug which you have a diagram of i used and there is an adapter which goes from it to the navi HU. I had to dig way back under my dash to pull it out, ha i was so confused until i found it too. Sorry its taking me so long! |

Hey all i've got an 07' STi HU installed in my 05 Saabaru. The unit will play cds but recently it will not read them. The screen will say, "reading file", then say, "check Disc". It is also becoming slower at changing from disc to disc.
I used a lens cleaning CD in hopes of it doing something but to my dismay it did not. Any ideas about what's going on here? is it dying? does it need cleaning? TIA |

Mcintosh HU
SVXdc,
Hi, I tried to contact you at the email address posted on your webpage the other day to see if an adapter could be made to replace a Mcintosh HU in a 2001 Subaru Outback with an aftermarket HU. I haven't gotten a response, so I thought I'd try here in case that email doesn't get checked much anymore or something. If it's not possible, please let me know. Thanks for your time! Jeremy Gill |

Anyone stuck a 2011 WRX Bluetooth head unit in a pre 2011 WRX/STI with steering wheel control and have figured out a way to make them work?

'09 WRX non-navi stock radio, powered sub in trunk...?
Hi all,
First post (just purchased my '09 Premium WRX on Monday), and I've been searching for the last couple hours and have learned a lot. However, I have a somewhat specific question that I'm not sure I could find via search. I have the Premium package and stock deck. I'd like to keep the head unit stock for aesthetics reasons. For the time being, I'm pretty happy with the stock sound/speakers, although I definitely want to fill in some lows. I've been looking at the Sound Ordnance B-8P powered sub in ported enclosure for my trunk. It has good reviews for the size/price, and I don't mind giving up a little trunk space. The B-8P has speaker-level inputs as well as usual RCA line-level inputs. Would it be terrible to splice into the rear speakers AT the speakers to run to the sub instead of running a wire from the head unit back? Does splicing into the rear speaker wires rob those speakers of power (ie cut in half)? Also, is it hard to get at the switched power line? Can I do so without removing parts of the dash or do I need get at the back of the radio? I'd like to take as little apart as necessary. Obviously I'd run a power cable to the battery itself. Sorry if any of this has been covered before. Thanks! |

To SVXdc: OEM 08 Sub with 2011 STi
Hey,
I noticed you had a solution to the old subwoofer from 08, to connect to the 2011 harness for the subwoofer.. I have the 2011 STi w/ Navi, mine is from Canada and is called the Sport-Tech; it actually comes with the Pioneer Avic-u310BT from factory (Navi, Bluetooth & USB). I was wondering what I would need to do to make the 08 OEM underseat Subwoofer work with my car and HU? Would it include the harness with the extra wire you have made? Thanks! |

Your Impreza has Subaru's normal 20-pin radio harness (plus a special adapter to connect that to the Subaru-installed AVIC-U310BT and special PAC SWI-PS module). So you could use Subaru's standard subwoofer T-harness (the type for non-Navi cars, with 20-pin connectors). If your STI has the new phone/Bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel, you will need a newer T-harness that includes the 3rd SWC wire (on pin #13). Without that wire, the sub harness will cause the phone and Mode buttons to stop working. If you get an older T-harness, I can provide an extra wire with the correct pins that you can snap into the empty slots on the T-harness. For Imprezas and Foresters without the phone buttons, any 20-pin T-harness will work. If you've purchased a sub without a complete harness, I can provide all of the parts you would need to restore it into a complete T-harness. See my profile here for contact info. |

Is there such a thing as a single-DIN factory radio with an aux in on the front (or the rear)? I'd like to replace the radio in my 01 Outback wagon with another factory radio; I tend to hate how aftermarket radios look.

A little help please, I have a Kenwood GX-204JE in my JDM 2006 Legacy GT spec b. I am in New Zealand.
I have a working Aux input in the center console. I want to connect 2 of the factory subwoofers, not available in NZ, so I would have to source them elsewhere. I found this site supplies the Legacy variant in the US. Would I be able to conenct this to my Headunit? Would I be able to connect 2 of them, 1 under passenger and 1 under drivers seat? I do not have the Navi and under the drivers seat all I see are 2 connectors ready for something to be connected. I am assuming these are for the navi unit? and I will have to use the T harness to connect the factory sub? Last edited by jabz; 10-08-2011 at 06:32 AM. |

See info on Subaru's OEM sub and its T-harness in my 'Stock HU Info' thread here. More online discount Subaru parts vendors listed here. Some may not ship to NZ. Also check on eBay. Be sure that the seller is including a complete, undamaged T-harness. Quote:
I would be grateful if you could post clear, well-lit pictures of those, along with your OEM HU (front, rear, and mfr. label on top or bottom). You can upload them to one of the photo hosting sites and post the link here (mangle the URL with spaces if this site doesn't allow you to post links yet). |

If you're going to use electrical tape, it needs to be high-quality. Cheap or old tape tends to fall off after being exposed to temperature extremes. Quote:
Since Subarus do have a ground wire on the radio harness, you should cut off the Sony's ring terminal (and some of the excess ground wire), and connect it to the black ground wire on your Subaru install harness (where you circled in green at the far right). |

I just picked up a 2011 WRX Sedan Premium package last Friday and i'm already going through satellite radio withdraws.
What type of receiver do you recommend for the stock head unit? |

I just got a chance to put in the new stereo today. I installed it and it sounded great, everything seemed to work perfect, thanks! As soon as I started the car to move it, though, there was a loud engine whine in the speakers. Is it maybe something not insulated enough, the RCA cables? I heat shrinked the ends of the unused speaker wires coming from the deck, although I don't know how they'd cause that. Any ideas? Thanks for your help, Jeremy |
