Power steering leak at the rack
2010 WRX
87000 miles Lifted/stage 2 (probably doesn't matter) WL steering rack bushings Seems I have a leaky PS rack . I first noticed the PS level a bit low, topped it off, then again noticed it was low about 1-2 weeks later. Looked around the pump and it was all clear. No leaks at the pump. While doing some other things, I took a look at the rack and found this. Can't really tell exactly where it's leaking from. Either the top seal where the pinion shaft goes, the paper gasket between the top half of the pinion housing and the rack, or from one of the hard line fittings. I can't really tell as everything has a nice coating of ATF/PS fluid. Are either of these seals a common point of failure? Also. The top rubber "cap" where the pinion shaft is, is that supposed to be loose, I can lift up the edges. I can probably clean everything off with brake clean and then start the car and look for leaks. But I figured I'd ask if any if this was relatively common. Sorry for the crappy cell pics. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. |
