Default The OFFICIAL 2012 MAIC Track Day Calendar

If anyone has some good pics of MAIC Subies on track, send me the link and I'll add a few.

This is what I have so far. I am trying to only include anything within about a 6 hour drive of DC, which is a pretty centralized to MAIC.

If you know of and/or want a track day, HPDE, or motorsports event on here, just PM me or post in the thread. Thanks!

I'm already signed up to instruct the Audi Club event at Summit March 17-18. I was going to do the TrackDaze RDE the weekend before, but I don't think that's going to be possible. I definitely want to try to get to Watkins Glen again this year.

Updated some dates. Some sites were off because of the leap year.

Signed up for the Audi Club event @ Summit Point in March. I will probably also do the SCCA PDX in March, but need to be sure I have a squared away car before I sign up.

For lodging while at Summit point, I suggest staying at the TownePlace Suites in Winchester. That's where I'll be.

Hey guys I'm new to the whole track day events stuff. What are some events that a person like myself can enter with a pretty much stock STi to just learn and have some fun on the weekends?

Thanks
Alex

Pretty much all the events listed above, with the exception of the TrackDaze RDE events. Just pick one that fits your schedule and budget.

Actually, that event was a mistake. There is no NASA MA event those days.

And yes, all you really need is a valid drivers license. It's always recommended that you upgrade your brake fluid to something that can take a bit more heat, and if you can, also upgrade your brake pads. If you don't have a helmet, make sure the group you choose to run with has loaners/rentals available.

This video talks about how to get started in NASA, but it's pretty much the same for any group that runs an HPDE. http://www.nasaracing.net/?page_id=43

So what's the deal with things like the audi club track days? Do you have to have an Audi? Just pay for an audi club membership?

You just have to have an Audi Club membership. You do not need an Audi. I've run with them for many years. They put on a really good event.

A better value, a better experience.

Its not that I'm exceeding the knowledge of the FATT instructors, they seem to be awesome. Its nice when I have an instructor that has an STi. I've heard people say that you get more laps with other events.

Well, most events are 2 days, so in that respect you definitely get more time. I can say that you definitely get a lot of track time with TrackDaze. Sessions are usually 30 minutes. As for the quality of the instructors, it really depends a lot on the individual instructor and student. Sometimes the instructor and student just "click", and other times there may be clashing personalities. Through the years I've had many instructors. Some I worked with better than others. Same goes now that I'm an instructor. I've had some really great students, and others that were just hard to get through to.

I think that a weekend event would be better for me because I drive 2 hours or so to get there. I think the FATT events have 20 minute sessions (IIRC).

Thanks.

On what site? For a weekend event they tend to run somewhere around $350-$550, depending on venue and organization. The Audi Event at Summit is $330.

NASA-MA 350-500 Plus consumables i.e. brake fluid,tires, pads,engine oil.

Another easy thing is if you have facebook look into NASA-MA facebook page they usually post the events a few weeks in advance. I strongly recommend The HPDE event with NASA @ summit for Beginners!!!!!! Tons of Fun

I would just sign up for Group 1 and have all your prior paperwork available. When they send you an confirmation E-mail you can ask to be bumped. I have seen people get bumped up/down the day of the event also. No worries, things run pretty smoothly out there with NASA!

I dont mind signing up for group 1 and actually running on that group as I have never done a nasa event........i was just trying to be nice to those actuall beginers, nothing more nerv wrecking to them than to have someone hounding you trying to pass hahaha......and if i took a beginer spot when the group was full i would feel guilty

NASA definitely has a great program for beginners. They have excellent instructors (both in car and classroom). Most of the other groups mentioned are great too. For a first timer, running with a group that's just holding an HPDE is better IMO. You usually get more track time, and it's a more relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is there just for fun. No races/racers (nothing against racing/racers. I'll be one sooner or later. It's just a little more...ummm...intense, and not to mention crowded). On the other hand, if you want to try to catch some racing between sessions and classroom, NASA is a great time.

whoa $350-550 I'm not humping the OT at work like use to now if this was last yr I'd be all over it. I might try and get my hand in one event to see if its something I'd like to continue with or not. Maybe I'll do the Mach V event at the end of the yr. Thanks for all the input guys
