Not all STi intercoolers are the same. For USDM:
04-07: direct bolt on for 2.0l WRX using the outer bolt hole in the bracket on the passenger side. 08+: wider than 04-07, so it requires an additional bracket to bolt on a 2.0l WRX (or 04-07 STi). The bracket is available from Subaru.

My ETS outlet temps are 3-6 degrees higher on average than ambient with my Dom 3.5XTR build. On a 3rd gear pull from 2200 to 7900 it read +58 degrees over ambient at redline. The ETS definitely cools better than the stock 06 STI intercooler that I had before based on my experience with the VF48.

I was referring to use with an 18g.
There is so much to an intercooler that most people just don't seem to get. It isn't just that one is simply better than the other. Application has everything to do with it. I have talked about this in many threads. I talk about all the aspects of intercoolers which leads to pages and pages of discussion that I'm not about to repeat. Just do a search for my posts about intercoolers. I believe it's in the 18gxt vs 18gxtr thread. |

I know Dom! My comment was in response to another uneducated post on here about AM inter-cooler performance! I also had gains using the ETS with my VF48!

My pull ads another 1200 rpm (7900) over what your log shows with similar boost, making 20 psi by 3900. I have my IAT located on the underside of the intercooler right in front of the throttle body. Where did you locate your IAT Ron? Last edited by manitou; 03-20-2013 at 08:39 AM. |

Yeah I have serious doubts that his iat is in the right spot.
Any pictures? With stock, ets and pw I'm seeing almost 50 degrees rise in one third gear pull. |

20g-xt, Dom 1.5 Xtr, Hta68.
I've never seen any intercooler only show 10 degree change. I have to seriously doubt the data you guys are getting. You guys must be using either slow response temp sensors or have poor placement. |

juan is SD and fmic...im not sure exactly where his iat sensor (GM) is but its post intercooler.
Mine is in the underside of the spearco about an inch to the right of the throttle body and its an AEM. When I was blow thru & FMIC before on td04, 16g, green, and hta green all stayed less than 10* rise during pulls. |

FMIC is one thing. We're talking about TMIC's here. All our IAT's are put IN the airstream right in front of the Throttle Body. Also, you have to include the rise in temp after the completion of the pull because that's the temperature sensor's slow response catching up.

i have 2 other IAT sensors in my intercooler....i'll hook those up too and see how they're reading. as for after letoff...the temp rises 2* after then tapers back down.
i couldnt put the iat sensor right in the center of teh throttle body because there is a meth nozzle tapped there (no its not spraying). |

I know that but I'll bet his MAF tune had the MAF with IAT pre-intercooler and I thought he was switching to SD so I figured that the IAT got relocated post IC. It just seems odd that there would be no temp change at all on a pull! Quote:
I know I've got mine in a good place now right in the throttle body air path. I even wrapped a thermal sleeve around the IAT sensor and plug just so it doesn't pick up heat soak off the engine. I know the IC may heat soak when sitting still but at least the sensor won't be getting heat soaked before the IC does. I have not run any logs after wrapping the IAT with the sleeve. |

thats the advantage of a fmic, consistency....most of his pulls the temp does rise 2-5*. the GM sensor does seem to have a horrible latency. I already said it in the quote you just quoted of me to ask if its spraying lol....the meth is NOT spraying. |

I know you said you were not spraying in the spot in front of the TB. I asked if you had any other nozzles in place that were spraying, did I not? That's all I wanted to know. |

Dom, sorry to divert on this IAT sensor path! I do think it's important to note location of it with the TMIC and what is the best spot and method for readings.

I'm talking mainly FMIC's. But even on FMIC's I see the Dom 3's get crazy hot for some reason.

It may just be the size of the housing because of it's location that causes the added heat. |
