I have the new bulbs on the way but I was looking at pictures of my car and i noticed that the headlight stick out like a sore thumb. My whole car is a dark color combo except for the bright silver headlights.

See what I mean? Is there anyway i could paint the non reflective parts of the housing a black color? Maybe try to get it to blend in somewhat? Feel free to voice your opinions.

Yeah local with minimal down time, Sonny would be the man to see. You can paint them whatever you want. Black, flat black, gunmetal. Would look good painted either way.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've seen the '04-'05 headlights painted many different colors but black seems to "flow" the best. With your hood being carbon I think flat or gloss black would be best. Let me know when you want to do this when you get back.

Damn Sonny, nice work man. I love the carbon fiber Mistubishi logo on the front. Really simple and clean.

Thanks! What the 3M stuff didn't cover was back-masked and sprayed flat black to kill the rest of the chrome. I like how it turned out but whats important to me is the owner likes it.

Glad she likes it. I hope to start on the Bugeyes I'll be using for my conversion soon. I'll be sure to post pics when I get started.

Any progress with this?

I am thinking about a set of 91 Legacy headlights converted to HID. All I have seen are the plastic fluted lenses. I just got an extra set this weekend, so I can spare them if/when the time comes. I think I would want the side markers "formed" in clear plastic too, to match the headlights when they are done.

Anyway, just a thought. I read through the thread and see that you do amazing work. I'm impressed.

I've not made any progress in this direction yet as too many other things have been taking up my time. I've been reading the "Lens forming thread" in HIDplanet. Lotsa good info and I do still want to experiment with this. Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I forgot to post up the link to the lens forming thread. There is a wealth of information in this thread and I will be reading it alot when I start messing around with vaccum forming:
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...product-post-1
If all goes well I will be starting on my own Bugeye retro this week and of course I will post pics.

Default Latest bugeye

So I had a few spare parts around. I got a great deal on a used set of OEM Bugeyes and decided to do a retro with Morimoto mini D2S projectors like the ones I did up for Tribal. I had a pair of Apollo(Cayenne) shrouds sitting around so I fitted them which wasn't easy-they are huge! I also tried out a clear-coat formula I found on a detailing forum to restore the lenses which I first wet-sanded down to 1000 grit. I didn't take before and after pics because I wasn't sure how it would work out but I think the results speak for themselves. The urethane I used has a UV protectant built in and the person who came up with the formula said the first one he did about two years ago still looks great.

These aren't the ones I'll be using for my conversion-I'll be doing a write up on those in this thread later.

Default Lit pics

A couple took with the 3000k D2S capsules-its really too bright for cutoff shots but they are identical to the ones I did for the Bugeye retro how-to:

Ok, so only one since photobucket is being fussy. It was almost identical to the one that can be seen.

Since the leads for the highbeams are soldered to the harness I couldn't get any highbeam pics but they are identical in pattern to the projectors I used for the Bugeye retro how-to. Thanks to my Wife for her SLR and steady hand!
